JUN 21, 19 .. IRKUTSK .. TWO MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD SHOPPING CENTERS / MALLS

A promise made .. Is a debt unpaid ..

Robert W. Service .. The Cremation of Sam McGee

In our last Post dated JUN 19, 19 .. We promised to show you two more Shopping Center / Shopping Mall venues that are in the middle-of-the-road average. Neither high nor low examples of what we have here in Irkutsk, just average.

We hope, as you look at these two 'very average' shopping centers here in Irkutsk, Russian Siberia, you will pause and think..

"These sure are very nice venues for being just average."

Here we go loop-de-loop one more time.

SHOPPING CENTER SEZON

Oh by the way, the gentleman whose bust you see on the far right side of the below photo is one Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.

The main entrance, off Karl Marx Street, here in Irkutsk.

Inside of the Shopping Center Sezon we walk.

Are you all keeping-in-mind that you are now looking at an average shopping center deep in the heart of Russian Siberia.

This multi-floor shopping center gives you a very pleasant feeling of being very open and airy.

As we now leave the very average, Russian Siberian Shopping Center Sezon, take a look at the courtyard in front of the main entrance.

The wall mural, titled Memorial International, behind Mr. Lenin, is one amazing feature of the entrance area.

The Memorial International includes words that were adapted from a French song first sung in 1864. The words of the chorus and first stanza are shown (in Russian script) on the above wall.

The images of characters on the wall represent five different nationalities.

On we now proceed to our second, very average Russian Siberian Shopping Mall.

MALL LERMONTOV

We will begin with some views from afar of MALL LERMONTOV.

Now we are going to jump way-out-of-photographic-sequence.

The above three photos of the mall were snapped in front of the magnificent, ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, the Church of The Immaculate Heart of The Mother of God, here in what I am 'coining-as-a-term, the Lermontov District of Irkutsk.

One of the major streets on the West side of Irkutsk is Lermontova. This is a new-to-me street and area of Irkutsk. The mall's name, and my coining-it-the Lermontov District, originate with the name of the street.

This church is one of the very, VERY, few churches here in Irkutsk that is NOT Russian Orthodox.

The below first three photos of the church were snapped from within the mall, from the top floor.

While we are here, we'll take a peek inside of the Church of The Immaculate Heart of The Mother of God.

Now back we return to photos of the MALL LERMONTOV.

Keep-in-mind that this edifice, the one that I am calling the MALL LERMONTOV, thinks, with all due respect for us, that its name is..

ТОРГОВЫЙ (SHOPPING) ЦЕНТР (CENTER).

See what I mean about it being just a middle-of-the-road, Russian Siberian average mall? It has a very basic name.

Inside we now march.

"Hum-m-m, what have we here. Nice seating."

"A lot of nice seating."

Can anyone find Patti in the above photo?

"It's a Food Court."

"Oh My Goodness Gracious!"

"We just Died and Went To Heaven."

Below you see a 12-inch, Tuna Footlong, Subway Sandwich.

"And?"

"It truly was To-Die-For great."

With Joy as we survive very, VERY, nicely here in Russian Siberia.

  1. Cap, Nice looking Malls, but where are all the shoppers? Not even in the food court except you and Patti. Where you there early in the day? Gord

  2. Yes Gord. I work at, I strive, to get photos with as few people in the photos as I can manage. You would not believe some of the things I see when I used to just shoot them at random. People giving me the finger, sticking out their tongues, making all sorts of faces, etc. These would greatly distract from the object / objects in the photos I was trying to highlight. So yes, I will go during off-hours as one technique. This includes restaurants also. THANKS for your interest Gord. Cap and Patti
