SEP 29, 19 .. VLADIVOSTOK .. MEMORIALS TO VLADIMIR LENIN & ANNA SHCHETININA

All over Russia, from the large metropolitan cities to the small rural villages, you will find a memorial to Vladimir Lenin.

A large city such as Vladivostok, has a prominent memorial to Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution that toppled the Russian Tsar Nicholas II.

Vladimir Lenin's Memorial in Vladivostok is right-smack-dab in the center of town directly across from the Vladivostok Railway Station, the end of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Below is his surname in Russian cyrillic.

The first letter (Λ) below, the upside down V, is a modern version of the traditional letter Л which is the proper Russian cyrillic symbol for the letter 'L'.

He has a nice view of the Vladivostok Railway Station and the harbor in the distance.

A nice park surrounds his monument.

The above photos were taken on Saturday the 31st of August, the first sunny day in a week. We, my friends here in Vladivostok and myself, were 'making-tracks' to see and to photograph all we could see and do in our 6 hour trek around town.

Today's Rhetorical Question : Aren't we living in an amazing world of Information technology?

Who on earth is Anna Shchetinina?

After seeing Lenin's Memorial, off we raced to see a memorial to a lady who was a very famous ship captain.

So into Google I typed these words :

Vladivostok memorial to the first female ship captain.

And will you all just look at what popped up on Wikipedia!

Anna's name in Russian cyrillic.

I snapped the below photos of the Russky Bridge and a tiny portion of the Vladivostok Harbor from Anna's Memorial.

A short Post? Yes BUT I hope it was also sweet.

  1. Lenin, Lenin, Lenin .. I got so used to seeing monuments to him EVERYWHERE we went in Siberia. HOWEVER, I was entranced here to read about Anna Shchetinina and your viewing of the monument to her. Quite a story about her and about her many remarkable achievements happening at such a young age, and leading to a lifetime of successes. VERY interesting! Smiles and hugs. Patti

    1. Too funny. I too had quite a time with Anna's surname. Amazing her life. Nice to see her memorial monument. Without my Vladivostok friends I would NEVER have found, let alone visited, her monument. Her life and monument speaks to Vladivostok being a seaport city. Much love .. Cap
