MAY 31, 25.. THE DETROIT, MICHIGAN ZOO..

 Let's begin with a hearty..

THANK YOU Ginny and THANK YOU Linda for being our guest contributors for this Post.

Ginny's sister Linda lives in the Detroit Michigan Metropolitan area and it was Linda who snapped the below photos she snapped recently at the Detroit Zoo.

A small giggle. Actually the Detroit Zoo is not located in Detroit. It is located in the two Northern Detroit suburbs of Royal Oak and Huntington Woods about 12 miles due North of downtown Detroit.

The Detroit Zoo covers 125 acres and houses 2,000 animals of over 200 different species. It was opened August 1st 1928.

The Detroit Zoo's general admission cost is $27 for adults (ages 13-64) and $24 for youth (ages 2-12) and seniors (ages 65+) when purchased at the gate.

However, tickets can be purchased online in advance for varying prices depending on the date and time of visit, ranging from $14 to $24 for adults and $12 to $21 for youth/seniors. Parking at the Detroit Zoo costs $8 per vehicle.

Along with Ginny and Tom our Laughlin, Nevada friends, I was born in Detroit and raised in or near Royal Oak, so the Detroit Zoo is like a lifelong friend. Patti has also enjoyed several visits with me.

THE DETROIT ZOO..

It is one very beautiful venue.

Thank You again Linda and Ginny for sharing these photos with all of us.

Patti and I returned north to Anchorage, Alaska from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, last April the 24th.

Oh BUT we still have very close friends such as Ginny down in Laughlin, Nevada and that part of the country that continue to send us great photos.

Below are some great photos that Ginny snapped on a recent drive from Laughlin over to Kingman, Arizona, on Arizona Highway 68.

MAY 11, 25.. MOTHER'S DAY 2025

Patti and I find it difficult to believe that, here on Google Blogspot, we have not ever published a Mother's Day Post.

The time has come to change that. Yes we have published several Mother's Day Posts over on our Dotnet website but none here.

I am going to utilize the NATIONAL TODAY website to explore what NATIONAL TODAY has to say about Mother's Day.

The beautiful and unparalleled bond of love shared between children and mothers is honored and celebrated in the United States on the second Sunday of May, this year being May 11th.

Mothers Day celebrations go back to ancient times when Greeks and Romans held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.

However, the early Christian festival, known as "Mothering Sunday", stands as the modern precursor. This European tradition fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent. Many believed the faithful would return on this day to their “Mother Church”— the main church near their home — for a special service. The Mothering Sunday tradition shifted over time into a more secular holiday where children would give their mothers flowers and other gifts.

Anna Jarvis successfully initiated Mother’s Day after her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died in 1905. Jarvis noted that Mother’s Day should contain a “singular possessive,” (hence the apostrophe) so each family might honor its own mother — as opposed to all mothers. Jarvis, who neither married nor had children, organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration in May 1908. A Philadelphia department store owner named John Wanamaker lent his financial support to the cause. That same month thousands of people attended a Mother’s Day event at one of Wanamaker’s stores.

Jarvis soon lobbied to make Mother’s Day a national holiday — urging prominent Americans to join the effort.  By 1912 many states, towns, and churches had adopted Mother’s Day as an annual event. Jarvis also started the Mother’s Day International Association.

President Wilson would soon establish the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in 1914.

Hallmark began selling Mother’s Day cards in the early 1920s.

It is interesting, and it is sad to say, that Jarvis’ love affair with the holiday she worked so hard to start did not last. She grew to resent its commercial appeal. As florists and greeting card companies began to cash in, she soured on the idea of a national day — urging people to stop buying flowers, cards and candies. Jarvis spent most of her personal wealth hiring attorneys to file lawsuits against groups using the term “Mother’s Day.” She even tried to persuade the federal government to remove it from the calendar.

Yes Oh Yes! There is a lot more information about Mother's Day if you choose to go directly to the NATIONAL TODAY website by clicking onto the link shown below.

It is not unusual for NATIONAL TODAY to have other very "Similar Holidays" for the same basic Holiday.

Below you will see what I mean.

MOTHER'S AT THE WALL DAY?

We've never heard of this Holiday!

Mothers at the Wall Day (M.A.T.W.D.) is observed on the second Sunday of May every year. This year it falls on May 11. Moms don’t get days off. Instead, they are rewarded with sticky kisses, the occasional macaroni necklace, and the gratification of seeing their children grow into happy, healthy adults. That’s probably insufficient compensation for all they do, so give Mom an extra embrace this Mothers at the Wall Day.

As we did above, if you wish to more to read about Mother's At The Wall Day on the NATIONAL TODAY website please click onto the below link.

We checked the above link out and, for the life of us, can't find much difference between Mother's Day and Mother's At The Wall Day.
