SEP 30, 19 .. VLADIVOSTOK .. BOLSHEVIK MEMORIAL

The proper name for (what I am calling in the above title)
The Bolshevik Memorial is..

MEMORIAL TO THE FIGHTERS FOR THE SOVIET POWER IN THE FAR EAST

Below is a link that will tell you more about the Bolshevik Revolution that began on 8 March 1917 and ended on 16 June 1923.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Revolution

Because I have been in Russia for an extended stay, I could not help but learn at least a little bit about the Russian Revolution led by Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks (Ones of the Majority).

The below photos show the Bolshevik Memorial here in Vladivostok.

On Saturday, the 31st of August, I did NOT set out to see this memorial. Au contraire! Because it was the first sunny day in weeks, I set out with two of my Vladivostok friends to see some of the sights of Vladivostok.

Our tour included a visit to the biggest and the most majestic Russian Orthodox Church here in Vladivostok, The Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God.

After a lot of walking, I sat down upon my cane-chair to rest awhile and, at random, snapped the below photo of the church.

Without getting up, I turned to my left and saw the below scene.

I then arose and shot the below photos, having absolutely no idea whatsoever of what this enormous monument was.

When I shot the below photo, a close-up of the wording you see on the face of the monument in the above two photos, the dates (1917 - 1922) immediately told me what it was.

A monument to the Russian Revolution.

If you look closely at the below photo, you will see that there are several different individual monuments in this memorial.

I'm not sure the below monument is a part of The Bolshevik Memorial but it is close by and you can again see the church off to the right.

I am so pleased that I was able to visit the wonder of Vladivostok.

To coin a phrase..

I wouldn't have missed it for the World..

SEP 29, 19 .. VLADIVOSTOK .. MEMORIALS TO VLADIMIR LENIN & ANNA SHCHETININA

All over Russia, from the large metropolitan cities to the small rural villages, you will find a memorial to Vladimir Lenin.

A large city such as Vladivostok, has a prominent memorial to Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution that toppled the Russian Tsar Nicholas II.

https://www.google.com/search?q=bolshevik+revolution&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS816US816&oq=bolshe&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.13258j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Vladimir Lenin's Memorial in Vladivostok is right-smack-dab in the center of town directly across from the Vladivostok Railway Station, the end of the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Below is his surname in Russian cyrillic.

The first letter (Λ) below, the upside down V, is a modern version of the traditional letter Л which is the proper Russian cyrillic symbol for the letter 'L'.

He has a nice view of the Vladivostok Railway Station and the harbor in the distance.

A nice park surrounds his monument.

The above photos were taken on Saturday the 31st of August, the first sunny day in a week. We, my friends here in Vladivostok and myself, were 'making-tracks' to see and to photograph all we could see and do in our 6 hour trek around town.

Today's Rhetorical Question : Aren't we living in an amazing world of Information technology?

Who on earth is Anna Shchetinina?

After seeing Lenin's Memorial, off we raced to see a memorial to a lady who was a very famous ship captain.

So into Google I typed these words :

Vladivostok memorial to the first female ship captain.

And will you all just look at what popped up on Wikipedia!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Shchetinina

Anna's name in Russian cyrillic.

I snapped the below photos of the Russky Bridge and a tiny portion of the Vladivostok Harbor from Anna's Memorial.

A short Post? Yes BUT I hope it was also sweet.

SEP 22, 19 .. VLADIVOSTOK .. THE END OF THE TRANS SIBERIAN RAILWAY

I am sure that Vladivostok is famous for many things. But the one thing that really strikes me is that Vladivostok is the far eastern terminus of the Trans Siberian Railway.

For all (and more) than you will ever want to know about the Trans Siberian Railway let's check out Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Siberian_Railway

Here we go with a few photos of the Vladivostok Railway Station which serves far more trains than the Trans Siberian Express.

The railway station is directly across the street from Lenin's Monument.

I took the first three photos below facing the railway station with Lenin's Monument behind me.

In Russian you have the Railway Station (top word) and  Vladivostok (bottom word in red). These words are in 'modern' Russian Cyrillic and I don't care much for it.

Do all of you see the Russian Orthodox CHURCH OF THE INTERCESSION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD across from the railway station?

In case you missed it, below is a link to my Post showing photos I took of the church.

https://bobbacaps.blogspot.com/2019/09/sep-7-19-vladivostok-three-churches.html

A few exterior views of the railway station.

The time has come to take look at the interior of the railway station.

In the below photo I believe we are looking at Tsar Alexander III.

All in all it is a rather small railway station when I compare it with others in Russian Siberia that I've been in and traveled through. Novosibirsk and Irkutsk are two that come to mind.

I really am pleased that I was able to visit the Vladivostok terminus of the Trans Siberian Express.

SEP 7, 19 .. VLADIVOSTOK .. THREE CHURCHES

Here we go, where we are going not even I, your Captain at the wheel of the ship, knows.

I want to show some more of the various attractions and sights that I saw when the sun-shone (after days of rain and grey skies) here in Vladivostok on Saturday the 31st of August.

I have already shown two of the bridges, The Golden (Horn) Bridge and the Russky Island Bridge, and a glimpse of the Amur Bay Bridge.

So I am going to just start going through my photographs and what comes up, comes up.

I visited three churches here in Vladivostok and amazingly each are shown in the below link.

http://vladivostok.travel/en/todo/the-temples-of-vladivostok/

MOTHER OF GOD ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

I visited this church several times to participate in meetings in the below room.

I snapped the below view overlooking Vladivostok from the church.

EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH OF ST. PAUL

The below photos tell me the church is home to families and children.

I get 'good vibes' seeing this area.

Inside we go. It is a beautiful, simple and basic, church.

Upstairs looking down from the church library.

I was here for a meeting.

Good Night Rest In Peace.

CHURCH OF THE INTERCESSION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

As you probably can tell the instant you see this church, it is indeed a Russian Orthodox Church. Due to the construction underway and our time schedule, I did not enter the church.

At the bottom of the above and below photos, you can see the weekend market is in full swing.

Notice in the below photo how the sun was illuminating the crosses.

A few photos of the market.

I am leaving Russia this upcoming Monday which is the day-after-tomorrow! So I am going to call this post a 'done-deal' because I don't want to be up too late tonight.
