Here we have Part 4 of a series of posts with a look back at when we were in Hong Kong one year ago today, July 14, 2019.
So far we've re-visited the Star Ferries (Part 1), Victoria Harbor (Part 2), and some of the Hong Kong Buildings (but not all of the buildings that I have photographed) in Part 3.
VICTORIA PEAK
These photos show the view down upon Hong Kong as seen from Victoria Peak. Across Victoria Harbor is Kowloon.
As you will readily see from the below photos, they were taken on different days at different times of the day. Up at Victoria Peak you often see a lot of fog.
Then again, once in awhile, you luck-out and catch a picture-perfect day!

Yes. Oh Yes. One does not feel 'alone' when visiting Victoria Peak.

Shaddy asked me about some of the must-see tourist sights here in Hong Kong.
To ride-the-tram up to Hong Kong's Victoria Peak is one of the must-do tourist activities here in Hong Kong. I have done the trip and I am very happy I have done it!
Here we go on a trip up the Tram to Victoria Peak. The below two photos are taken from the 9th Floor of my YMCA in Kowloon. I want you to see the difference between the two photos.
In the below photo you can SEE Victoria Peak. It is the Peak in the distance behind the buildings. It is the ONLY Peak in the photo! Although it IS NOT a clear day at least you CAN see Victoria Peak.
By-the-way .. the below views are what I see as I stand at the pay phone and call Patti.
Below you see the Fog hanging over the top of Victoria Peak. You can NOT see the Peak. It is quite 'normal' to have fog over the peak!
YOU ALWAYS KNOW GOING IN .. THAT THERE IS A CHANCE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE A THING FROM THE TOP OF VICTORIA PEAK!
ALL of my trips to Hong Kong and to Hong Kong Island .. begin with a ride across Victoria Harbor on my beloved STAR FERRIES.
At Hong Kong Central Pier Number 8 you catch Bus Number 15C that takes you to the entrance to the Tram that will take you up to Victoria Peak. NOTE IT IS AN OPEN AIR DOUBLE DECKER BUS .. the FUN kind to ride here in Hong Kong ! .. Fare was a modest 4.2 HK Dollars or Fifty Seven Cents ($0.57).
On the way to the entrance to the Victoria Peak Tram I snapped two photos for you to see .. WHAT A CITY!
Captain I think your followers are all getting tired of hearing you sing the high praises about Hong Kong.
We have arrived at the entrance to the Victoria Peak Tram station.
The cost of the Tram ride up to the Peak and the return down is 40 HK Dollars or $5.41 U.S. Dollars. IF you are age 65 or older the cost is 18 HK Dollars or $2.43 U.S. Dollars. I QUALIFIED ! When I went up the tram I did NOT even have to 'show proof' of age and there was basically NO waiting time. I heard that on a clear day during the summer high tourist season .. the wait can be two HOURS or longer ! I was lucky since the wait can be HORRIFIC! On a Foggy day 'off season' I 'lucked out' since there was no waiting at all.
I DID wait once I got to the actual boarding entrance to the Tram. There was a line. When I got to the head of the line I let the line 'pass-me-by'. Then I waited to be 'first-onto-the-Tram' when the next one came into the station. This assured me of a window .. ON THE BEST SIDE FOR VIEWING .. that being the side that faces Hong Kong. The other side looks into the side of the hill!
Captain you think well on your feet.
You CAN SEE that it WAS FOGGY. Hence there was no demand for people to go up to the Peak to see absolutely nothing except fog!
And UP we go. It is REALLY A VERY STEEP CLIMB. The Tram is pulled up and down by cables visible in the above photo. I
t is 'about' a ten-minute trip.
Don't ask me how I do these things but after the visit to Victoria Peak I got a photo of the tram looking down from above the tracks.
I also snapped several photos looking up at the Tram from the street below.
It really is a steep hill!
I am just going to post the next photos. There is really no reason to comment further.
Hong Kong? Hong Kong! Pinch me! I must be dreaming.
In the below photo we are NOT even close to the Peak and you can see that the Fog is closing down any viewing I had hoped for. BUT from the above photos you CAN see that the view on a clear day is SPECTACULAR !
I hope that the above photos will at least give you some idea of the trip up the Tram to Victoria Peak in Hong Kong ..
When you do get to the upper end of the Tram ride you are GREETED BY A MAJOR MONEY-GRABBING SHOPPING MALL! There is a three or a four level .. MOST MODERN SHOPPING MALL .. up at the top. Then after you go up escalator after escalator after escalator .. you come to a 'gate'. To get past the 'gate' to actually go to the TOP .. you must pay an additonal 30 HK Dollars (15 HK Dollars for seniors). With it SOLID FOG there was NO decison for me! See the last photo above. They had a 'live video' of the view from the top and you could see the view was totally blocked by the Fog ..
What you have seen above .. fog and all .. is what the majority of tourists encounter.
BUT I enjoyed experiencing the adventure .. Smiles .. Cap
