OCT 31, 24 ( 3 / 3 ).. WINTER 2024-25.. OUR FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL..

Last Monday, we began with one Post showing our first significant snowfall of our Winter 2024-25.

That was that!

Then it kept snowing so on Tuesday we added a Part 2 to Monday's Post.

And now, here we are with a very short Part 3, because it has continued to snow.

Today's very short Post is to show our Chevrolet Suburban in our carport.

Tuesday there was little snow in the carport.

Today, Thursday, our truck is 90% "out of the snow".

The important issue is that his roof is clear. Clearing the roof is a major undertaking.

Why bother with another Post Captain?

First, I went out to check on our Suburban to be sure everything was OK. Then I snapped the above photos and decided to post them.

Revisit our first significant snowfall of this winter 2024-25.

Whang it! Full speed ahead.

Our first "heavy frost" in early October.

October the 10th our first evidence that winter is coming.

Yesterday, October the 28th. Looks like winter is here!

Today, October the 29th. No doubt about it. From 8 to 11 inches of snow accumulated beginning yesterday and continuing overnight!

Now we are going to "zero in" on our truck.

Do all of you see the beginning of a "snow berm" in front of our truck? Our snowplow crew had begun to clear our main parking area last night and left this berm with no regard to it blocking our truck from exiting!

I was laying in bed at 11 o'clock this morning "waking up". I was looking forward to an easy day and watching game 3 of the World Series with Patti.

Suddenly I thought, "If I don't get our truck cleared off and out of its parking place, the snowplow crew will totally trap our truck".

We are leaving for Arizona in early November and I MUST have our truck free to drive for the next 12 days.

Get it? Got it? Good!

So Your Captain "went to work".

Thanks Dad! That sure feels better!

After I finished clearing most of the snow off our Suburban, I put it into 4 wheel drive low, put the transmission into it's lowest gear, and turning as tight as I could to the right, we two managed to get free.

Where do I park him now? 

In his assigned carport space.

We do not park our Suburban in our carport because we like to be able to see him from our bedroom window. He has been stolen once and vandalized (broken into or having his gasoline tank drilled by gasoline thieves) five times. Replacing a gasoline tank costs over $1,000 each time!

In the meantime, the front parking lot had been cleared so back in front Mister R. Richardson Richtoffen went.

Do you see the small mountain of snow he would have been behind if I hadn't moved him? The snowplow operators seem to have absolutely conscience when it comes to blocking people's vehicles.

The above pile of snow will remain there all winter getting larger and larger with each snowfall.

Now that our truck is free, I can immediately move him into our carport if we get another serious snowfall. Whew!!

OCT 28, 24 ( 1 / 3 ).. WINTER 2024-25.. OUR FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL..

Last night, we here in Anchorage were "put on alert" for our first major (5 to 8 inches) snowfall of this upcoming winter.

So we "hunkered down" in anticipation of todays snowfall.

Well, guess what? 

Yes we did have a significant snowfall that we don't expect to quickly melt as did our first "touch of winter snow" back on October the 10th did.

But is sure wasn't 5 to 8 inches! Yet!

No matter where you are living, the weather forecasts, at best, are oft incorrect! Yes we had significant snow but NOT 5 to 8 inches. Yet!

OCT 10, 24 .. OUR FIRST TOUCH OF WINTER 2024-25..

Both Patti and I know! 

Yes Oh Yes! We both fully understand that this first snow, call it a "dusting", will not "last" too long..

BUT this does not change the fact that it IS indeed our very first snow of the Winter 2024 - 25 up here in Anchorage, Alaska.

Too bad, so sorry Alaska Winter 2024-25! One month from today, on Sunday, November the 10th, 2024, Patti and I will be flying South from Anchorage, Alaska, to Las Vegas, Nevada. Then Tom Tiger will drive us by auto to Laughlin, Nevada, where we will spend six days at "our" Edgewater Hotel. Then we drive South to Lake Havasu City to spend the winter months in the Arizona Desert.

One short year ago tomorrow, it was Wednesday, October the 11th, 2023, we had our first Alaskan Winter 2023-24 snow.

Now we come to today, and our first "real touch" of this up coming winter".

This morning, one day shy of an exact year ago, we awoke to the first snow of the Alaska 2024-25 Winter.

Yes we are "repeating ourselves".. 

Yes Oh Yes! We both fully understand that this first "dusting" of snow will not "last" too long, but it sure is a sign of what lies ahead.

Patti was up at 9am, and said that the ground was completely covered with snow. We both are sorry she didn't awaken me to snap photos then.

I got up around 11am and immediately snapped the below photos but a lot of the snow had already melted. 

At 5:50pm in Alaska, as we publish this Post, you would not know that it had snowed last night.
