AUG 18, 24 ( 4 / 4 ) .. PATTI'S FLOWERS.. SUMMER 2024.. A FINAL UPDATE..

Our great friend and ally Gullible, lives about 100 miles South of us in Moose Pass. On any given day, at any given moment, she very well may have weather entirely different than we have in Anchorage.

Today, here in Anchorage, we have rain.

We see a rainy day. Captain what is your point?

I snapped the below photos yesterday, Saturday, the 17th of August, when it was a "Picture Perfect Day".

The point? Just in case it is warm and sunny in Moose Pass, Gullible will understand we have rain here in Anchorage today on Sunday!

Oh My! Oh My!

I am so very, VERY HAPPY, that this past July the 27th and 28th, I picked myself up and drove to our local Home Depot and purchased flowers for Patti to have this summer.

IF you want more background on this, you will find it in the below link.

What.. A.. Day.. We.. Had.. Yesterday!

Keep in mind that this has been basically a wet, rainy, cool, overcast, summer that we much prefer to the heat in Arizona.

Below are our porch flowers! Our 'Proud Weed' (in the center planter) wants you all to notice his shadow!

Our front planter.

Our center planter, featuring 'Proud Weed'.

See 'Proud Weed's' shadow?

Why is he 'Proud Weed'. Because long before we planted all of the flowers, 'Proud Weed' was the one, and the only, sign of anything green and growing in our vacant planter boxes. And just this one bit of green, plant life, pleased Patti to look at!

Our upper planter.

Lastly, our 'Vagabond' the last planter, has its very own assortment of weeds growing wild with no apologies and no help from us thank you!

Two of his 'weeds', the tallest ones, are Alaskan Fireweeds that are also called by the experts, not a weed but, a common and beautiful wildflower.

"Thank You Mom, so very much, for giving all of us a nice drink of water that is fortified with plant vitamins."

Patti also did a little 'deadheading'

There you have it! Our short 'flower update'.

Smiling Yes! From ear to ear! Yes both of us!

AUG 11, 24 ( 3 / 4 ) .. PATTI'S FLOWERS .. SUMMER 2024..

Well here we are! It was two weeks ago (July 27th and 28th) that Patti and I 'rolled up our sleeves' and planted flowers out on our porch for the first time in two years.

Neither Patti nor I know 'what happened' last year but we didn't have flowers on our porch.

So this is an 'update' showing how our flowers are doing!

Very, Very, Well, Thank You!

Here we go!

Our porch before we began.

Our porch 'now'.

Hi Mom! So nice to see you on this beautiful day!

Patti is 'dead heading' the flowers.

Hello.. Hello.. Mister Weed.. You are thriving.

Mister Weed was the only green object in the boxes on the porch before the flower project began. Patti was impressed with his tenacity and urged that he be retained!

Mister Weed has a shadow we get a kick out of seeing.

There you have it. The current 'State of Affairs' of our wonderful porch flowers!

Over and over and yes over again, Patti keeps saying how much she is enjoying our flowers.

Two Happy Campers!

JUL 30, 24 ( 2 / 4 ) .. PATTI'S FLOWERS .. SUMMER 2024..

Not everyone has the time to read our Posts each and every day. When we have a "multi-part" series of Posts (this being Part 2) we like to provide a link to Part 1.

If you missed Part 1, you can "catch up" by clicking the below link.

PART 2.. PATTI'S FLOWERS .. SUMMER 2024..

When we completed Part 1, our planter boxes were in place on our porch and ready to receive their flowers.

"Hi Dad. We've been waiting two years to be used!"

The three wooden planter boxes we will be using.

Below the three are set in place and they are very happily awaiting their flowers.

On the right edge of the below photo, you can see six flower baskets, all eagerly waiting to move into their new home.

In the above photo, our three planter boxes are ready to be planted. BUT, first there was a lot of work required to get each set of flowers ready to be planted.

I myself have never, ever, in my lifetime, "done" flowers.

So I picked up one of the six new flower baskets, grasped the plant firmly with my fingers, and commenced to "pull" (tug tug pull pull) the plant out of its basket. It would not budge. So I pulled more forcefully..

Suddenly Patti "squealed" at me: "Stop Cap! You are going to kill that poor little flower!"

Patti rescued it from me explaining that the poor little plant was tightly "root bound" so it had to be removed very carefully by gently squeezing and massaging the flowers thin plastic container.

The below photo shows what I mean about the flower plant being "root bound". Its roots had grown out of openings in its container and was "tightly root bound".

One has to gently, firmly and with patience "massage and manipulate" the thin plastic container to get the plant free.

Eventually "out it comes".

It's hard to explain, and to clearly show, but it is necessary to remove the roots along the flowers four edges and especially its bottom.

Voila! In Patti's right hand are the roots that have been pulled away from the plant and in her left hand is the plant now ready to be "dead headed" and carefully trimmed to remove parts of the plant that are dead and of no use to the plant.

"Deadheading" is a major job! But it is very important to the plant.

You must know what you are doing! Below are some photos of Patti "Deadheading" the plants.

Oh.. My.. Goodness.. The time has come to plant the flowers!

Here we go. First I got the soil in the planter boxes thoroughly stirred up. We did not take photos of first adding water to the soil.

At this point all of the preparations are complete and we do not have "Rocket Science".

The prepared plants are placed into their new homes.

Duck Soup.

Moving right along.

Oh Yes! Patti joined in the fun.

We are going to close with several photos showing our finished flower boxes.

Do any of you remember our weed? He is very happy.

We already are really enjoying our SUMMER 2024 FLOWERS!
