Technically it is a misnomer to lump Irkutsk and Arshan together as I'm doing in the above title. For one thing, they are in two entirely separate political subdivisions within the Russian Federation.
Below we are entering into the Republic of Buryatia.
VOILÁ we have arrived in АРШАН / ARSHAN.
In the below photo we have two names, АРШАН (ARSHAN) on the left and САЯНЫ on the right.
САЯНЫ or SAYANs (it sounds as SAYANY) is the name of the great group of mountains in Eastern Siberia, Mongolia and the Republic of Tuva.
We have begun our visit to АРШАН / ARSHAN.

Irkutsk is located in the Irkutsk Oblast.
Arsan is located in the Republic of Buryatia.
The reason I am lumping them together is because they have a shared territorial boundary. So nice of our friends Sergey and Elena and Edward to take us to Arshan because they enjoy visiting there.
We drove South from Irkutsk to the Slyudyanka area turning West at Kultuk, just North of Slyudyanka, and proceeded to Arshan.
When traveling from Irkutsk to Arshan on the road system, there is no mistaking when you are leaving one political subdivision (Irkutsk Oblast) and entering into another (Republic of Buryatia).
Below we are entering into the Republic of Buryatia.
In the below two photos, we are now in the Republic of Buryatia and we are looking back at the rear of the above sign.
People leaving the Republic of Buryatia are being welcomed into the Irkutsk Oblast.

Not only have we entered into the Republic of Buryatia, as you can see in the below photos, we have also entered into the Tunkinskiy Natsional'nyy Park.

On the below road sign, the Russian word АРШАН means ARSHAN in English.
