AUG 5, 25.. OUR FAVORITE ANCHORAGE LAUNDROMAT..

It has been a year since we made a trip to our favorite local Laundromat here in Anchorage. So the time had come to revisit it.

Our California King bed is very large so washing the large bedding takes a full service laundromat.

Below is our favorite laundromat. Actually it's the only one we use! Written as I giggle a little!

We have been having a pleasant Summer.

Below is what I mean about a large, full service, laundromat. 

It is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

I was absolutely amazed at this woman's laundry. She said that she does it as a commercial venue for many regular customers.

The two washers to the right are two of my favorites.

Below are my two large washers in use. Each load costs $8.75.

A little giggle. First I loaded dryer number 55 on the top right below. The minimum cost for a load is $3. 

Then I loaded the top left dryer, number 57. I then put the money into the bottom dryer number 58. When I pressed "Start" of course the bottom dryer where I deposited my money began to spin totally empty!

So I stopped dryer 58. Then I moved the load from dryer 57 down into dryer 58! All went well thereafter! 

Let me tell you. The management and the people who use this laundromat are really nice.

When it came time for me to fold up the bedding, here came four other customers to assist me!

Assist? No! 

They did the entire job including loading it into our truck out front!

Our top quilt is a real job to fold!

As the above two were folding the top quilt, two others were folding two sheets and a mattress cover behind them. 

I slipped them a $5 bill. They would NOT accept it! So I gave each of them a spiritual pocket stone that they really liked!

Back home and finished.

SEP 23, 24 ..ANOTHER POST ABOUT OUR LOCAL LAUNDROMAT..

Exactly one month ago today, on Friday, August the 23rd, after a lot of hemming and hawing, I finally decided to publish a Post about my visit to our local Anchorage Laundromat.

Does a Post here on Google blogspot have "feelings"? If I was to write at the beginning above.. "Delete This Post Before Reading" would its feelings be hurt?

Anyway a month ago I took our major bedding to our local Laundromat to be washed. Patti did not accompany me last month. 

Under the below King Size comforter, are two sheets and a mattress cover along with a myriad of pillows with cases. 

One month ago, we had the below, "picture perfect" day.

Today, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, it was 105°F. 

Today, here in Anchorage, we had 52°F, with rain and dark skies.

We'll take cool and rainy every time! We can dress for that!

Today, Patti dropped me off and headed to the library to return some books and to check out some new ones. Patti returned to the Laundromat just as I was getting ready to put our washing into a dryer.

We had one, extra large, washer full of washing.

Will you just look at the below lady! 

I just loved the gigantic Red Bag!

Lord Love A Duck! She got all of her washing into five washing machines.

Our machine is the closest one on the left. These are two of the four largest washing machines in the Laundromat.

After our washing was underway, I said to her as she was taking a short break, "Amazing! All of your laundry!" 

She replied (I actually had presumed this) that she has a business where she picks up people's laundry at their home, washes it, folds it, and returns it. I did not ask her what she charges.

I watched. Each machine costs $7.50. The two large ones cost $8.50. So she had to put thirty (30) quarters each into four machines and thirty four (34) quarters into the one extra large machine.

It took her some time to deposit one hundred and fifty four (154) quarters!

I know! Some one of you are thinking, "Only our Captain would be interested in all of this!"

Our large drier costs $2.50 for the first 20 minutes. Then, for each additional five minutes of drying time, it's 25 cents.

We purchased an additional ten minutes so our drying cost $3.00.

My second visit and I am on a first name basis with the manager, Antonia, her son A.J. and his son Lui! Great people!!

AUG 23, 24 .. OUR FAVORITE LOCAL ANCHORAGE LAUNDROMAT..

Hugh Connors and I went through four years of High School together some seventy (70) years ago!

Back in the early 1950's, students were assigned seats 'in alphabetical order'. So quite often, Hugh and I were sitting together. 

Hugh had his 'favorite saying'. When he got frustrated or confused and didn't know how to proceed he would exclaim "Whang It" and mistake or not he would move forward and not remain paralyzed and inactive.

Add to it Gullible's advice, "Cap just shoot photographs and publish them!"

I have been mentally wrestling with whether I should put this Post together or not! Who will care one whit about this 'mundane' issue!

Hugh would say, "Whang it Cap! Just do it!" 

Gullible might say, "Take photos of something interesting!"

Patti and I have a large, California King mattress. Let me tell you, the sheets, comforter, mattress-cover are large, bulky and heavy.

But we both felt that it was time to do a serious washing.

Whew!

We have them off the mattress and in large outdoor trash bags and ready to go to the Laundromat.

Dum De Dum Dum..

Patti was not able to accompany me.

I have arrived at the City Laundromat!

In the below photo, you can see that it is a large Laundromat!

The City Laundromat is about two miles from where we live. We are neighbors so to speak.

At the same time, at best, it is in a somewhat 'marginal neighborhood'. When I saw it was open 24 / 7, I thought to myself, "I don't think I would be washing things here during the middle of the night!"

Inside we go. The machines look 'brand new'!

I used the two washing machines at the right above. They are the largest washers in the City Laundromat. 

One load costs $8.75 so it cost $17.50 for two loads.

The white mattress cover was on the left and the top of the bed comforter on the right. One sheet and three pillow cases in each.

Each washing cycle was 30 minutes.

Time to dry them. Drying cost $2.50 for 20 minutes. For an additional 25 cents, you can purchase five additional minutes drying time. I ended up spending $5.50 for drying.

The white mattress cover and comforter were each dried separately with their sheet and pillow cases.

It's a done deal!

Back to my above comment about the somewhat 'marginal neighborhood'!

First, the automatic change machine shorted me when I put in a $20 bill. True, it was only two quarters short but.. 

The matron instantly refunded me my shortage! No debate. She counted out my $19.50 and gave me 50 cents.

Second, each and every single customer was polite, friendly and cleanly dressed. 

Then several of them leapt up to help me 'lug' the heavy, wet bedding from the washers to the dryers. 

Then getting things from the dryers into bags and out to our truck was a job! Again, I had great help from one young man in particular.
