DEC 21, 18 .. Part 3 of 3 .. Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ) .. WE'RE GOING BACK WHERE CAPTAIN?

To refresh your memories, Mike and I, along with two friends here in Abakan, made a road trip yesterday to visit the Sayano–Shushenskaya Dam which is said to be the highest dam in Russia.

En route to the dam, we stopped at Shushenskoye (Шушенское) a small village of some 19,000 people. I posted a map on dot.net showing its location. Below is a link to yesterday's post showing the map.

This small village / hamlet has a certain measure of fame! In 1897 one Vladimir Lenin was exiled here for his promoting anti-government policies. He remained here until 1900.

In my Post of yesterday, I showed you photos of the cafe here in Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ) where we ate lunch. In this post I am going to show you some additional photos taken in this small village, in Russian Siberia, where all of us, starting with me, may never return in body or in spirit. In memory? Oh yes!

Entering  Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ).

By photographing city limit signs, I am sure of the proper spelling of the names of the towns and villages we visit. Doing this here in Russia is vital because of the complex names and spelling of so many locations.

Not only do I use city limit signs to confirm the correct spellings, I use any visual opportunity that presents itself to me.

Above Shushenskoye in English, below Шушенское in Russian.

Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ) in Southern Russian Siberia.

Another beautiful Russian Orthodox Church.

In the below photo, notice the church, to the right of center, peeking out at us from behind the cafe where we enjoyed lunch.

The Historical and ethnographical museum-preserve.

My friend Alexander shot the below photo of me. On the left side of the below photo you can see the large exterior display of buildings that are part of the museum. We did not go out into the yard. I hate to admit this, but with a severe wind practically blowing me off my feet, it was a tad too cold to go out into the yard here in Shushenskoye in Russian Siberia.

A few general interest photos of Shushenskoye (Шушенское) village.

Now for something I consider special. Ice sculptures.

All of this here in Shushenskoye (Шушенское) village.

Part 3 of 3 follows so be sure to keep scrolling-down.

DEC 21, 18 .. Part 2 of 3 .. Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ) .. AGAIN .. WE'RE GOING BACK WHERE CAPTAIN?

This post will finish sharing with you my short visit to Shushenskoye (Шушенское) a small village South of Abakan in Southern Russian Siberia.

I saved it for last because, to the very best of my ability, I have NOT been able to find or to gather one single fact about the below haunting memorial here in Shushenskoye (Шушенское).

By giving it its very own Post, I am honoring it the best way that I know to do so.

Lacking one single tid-bit of information I will title it :

A MEMORIAL TO PEASANT WOMEN

Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ).

And the names. All of the names. What is the meaning of this Memorial?

The time has come the Walrus said ..

For us to leave Shushenskoye (Шушенское).

Goodbye, good luck, and my very best wishes to you Shushenskoye (Шушенское) village.

And the wind! It was relentless.

Well Shushenskoye (Шушенское) village, it is time to call this a wrap and publish this Post.

A short but an oh-so-very-sweet visit with you.

DEC 20, 18 .. Part 1 of 3 .. Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ) .. WHERE CAPTAIN?

Mike and I, along with two friends here in Abakan, made a trip today to visit the Sayano–Shushenskaya Dam* which is said to be the highest dam in Russia.

*I am not going to discuss our visit to the dam in this Post. Suffice-it-to-say I was sadly mistaken when I said previously that it was North of Abakan.

I am able to read the road signs and when I saw the below sign..

I said to my three cohorts, "Hey! We are on the road to Kyzyl  (КЫЗЫЛ ). That means we are SOUTH of Abakan!"

The three of them sort of did a ho-hum, and said quizzically, "Yes. You are correct Cap."

The Sayano–Shushenskaya Dam IS SOUTH of Abakan.

If you go to dot.net you will see a map showing the location of the dam and Shushehskoe.

En route to the dam, we stopped for lunch in Shushenskoye (Шушенское ).

Trust your Captain here, I am NOT going to expect any of you to remember Shushenskoye ( Шушенское ).

It was a great lunch stop and I decided to share it with you.

What did all of this food cost? U.S. $6.33.

Below is Alexander, our point-man here in Abakan.

That's all for today Sports Fans.
