NOV 28, 21 .. SOME MORE FUN.. AT LEAST FOR YOURS TRULY

Patti and I, either together, or individually, have three favorite walking routes here in our neighborhood that we enjoy when the weather permits.

Our favorite walk is from our Condo over to our local Sitka Street Park.

And at the far end of our Sitka Street Park walk, is the below bridge.

Our second favorite walk is from our Condo to the Hillstrand Pond.

As with our Sitka Street Park, we also have a bridge at the Hillstrand Pond.

The next two photos were snapped from the bridge.

And we have the ducks.

The last walk I make alone when I walk to attend meetings at our local Church.

For some years now, we have wondered what the distances are from our Condo to the Sitka Street Park Bridge, to the Hillstrand Pond Bridge, and for myself, to the Church for my meetings.

By chance do any of you know what the below device is?

It is a Surveyor's Measuring Wheel

As you walk, its counter measures the distance you have walked. One revolution of the wheel is (approximately) 3 feet 3 inches. The above wheel has a diameter of 12.5 inches which would make its circumference 39.27 inches (or approximately 3 feet 3 inches).

I was interested in the comparative distances of the above three walks and also in the total distance. I borrowed the measuring wheel to satisfy my curiosity.

What did I learn?

The Condo to Sitka Park Bridge

1,701 feet or 0.32 miles each way.

The Condo to the Church

2,577 feet or 0.49 miles each way.

The Condo to Hillstrand Pond

2,678 feet or 0.51 miles each way.

Now I know why I get cold walking the 1 mile distance (to and home) from Hillstrand Pond in the winter.

And Patti and I now know our favorite walk is just over 1/2 a mile.

NOV 27, 21 .. SOME FUN .. JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU KNOW SOMETHING

The other day, as I was walking up the steps into our Condo..

I saw something rather unusual.

So I picked it up and took it inside to inspect it.

Just when you think you know something !!

Now I am NOT 100% sure of this, BUT I am positive that at least some of you know exactly what it is and what it is used for.

Here we go.

Just like on Jeopardy!

What's the answer?

Any takers as to what it is?

And now we know..

The Rest Of The Story..

It is a SNOWBALL MAKER !

And makes absolutely, 100% perfect..

SNOWBALLS.

"Ah-h-h Cap!"

"What is a snowball?"

Happy you asked ! Here is what Wikipedia says a snowball is!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowball

And?

There are dozens of companies that make, and sell, snowball makers!

https://www.google.com/search?q=snowball+maker&rlz=1C1EKKP_enUS712US712&oq=snowball&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i131i433i512j46i433i512j46i131i433i512j0i433i512l5j0i131i433.5416j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Just having a little fun with all of you!

Cap and Patti who did not know what it was either.

NOV 25, 21 .. HAPPY, JOYOUS, THANKSGIVING DAY 2021

For many, hopefully for perhaps most of us, Thanksgiving Day is a day to spend with our families, enjoy a great meal, maybe watch some football, watch the New York City Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on T.V. and perhaps take a few moments to give gratitude for all we have to be grateful for.

Gratitude.

As powerful as our minds are, at one micro second, all our minds can do is focus upon one thing.

This concept of gratitude is so powerful. You see, IF we can focus upon those things we are grateful for, we are not able, at the same time, to focus upon those things that are bothering us.

I once had a friend (who was down-in-the-dumps mentally) tell me that he had nothing to be greatful for.

That brought to mind another long term friend who had suffered life threatening burns for which he was hospitalized for a period of time.

Whenever someone said to him that they had nothing to be grateful for, he would calmly say, with intense passion :

"Be grateful that you are not on fire !"

And he meant it !

On this Thanksgiving Day, Patti and I are grateful for our Winter Wonderland here in Anchorage, Alaska, and for our life together.

Just few photos to show you what we mean by our Winter Wonderland.

To begin, a photo from the front porch of our building.

Four photos adjacent to our building.

The below photo 'looks-back' at the area from which the above photos were taken.

The following photos were all taken in our immediate neighborhood.

Could we complain about our bone-chilling cold reaching below 5°F below zero? Yes we sure could.

Could we complain about the work involved in removing snow from, and all around, our truck?

Yes! We sure could! We choose not to focus on the negative.

We'll close out this Thanksgiving Day Post with the following photos.

Our Condo is behind us in the below photo showing Sitka Street, the road out of our neighborhood

May you all have a happy and a joyous Thanksgiving Day 2021.
