Because I write many post cards and letters .. local Post Offices become places that I frequent almost on a daily basis! I do what you all do .. I purchase stamps and have letters that I mail weighed.
I absolutely .. 100% always .. post my mail at and inside of a Post Office.
Here in Agra Cantt they have a beautiful Post Office.
I am going to show you a few exterior photos of the Post Office. Then photographically I am going to take you for a walk home to my Hotel Pawan from the Post Office.
Let's begin! In the below photo the red object you see in the center of the sidewalk is an ancient letter drop box.
Looking diagonally to the right in the above photo you see the nice lawn pictured below with the Post Office in the background.
A close-up view of the elderly letter drop box you saw in the first photo above.
Walking to my left from the above photo over into the corner of the lawn .. you see the below view of the Post Office and more of its lovely landscaping.
In the below photo we are looking back across the lawn to the right. Do you see the ancient red letter drop box?
A close up of the main entrance to the Post Office.
Looking now to the right of the main entrance.
Below you see three outside letter drop boxes that I never use!
Why do I do this? Stories abound here in India about postal staff stealing mail that has not been postmarked and salvaging the stamps. Never ever has a postal employee here in India questioned this request.
The green box is for local mail. The center box for the rest of India. The box on the right for foreign mail.
Here we go for a walk out of the Post Office and back to my Hotel Pawan with some sights-along-the-way.
You would not believe the times over the years I have made the below walk.
Below is a closer look at the postal building you see in the background above after I turn the corner and walk to the right.
Looking back at the one end of the main Post Office.
The walk below leads us out to the street.
Just before you get to the gate you have this nice area below.
Below is one last look back at the end of the main Post Office. Off to the left you see the front of the Post Office.
We are now outside the main Post Office which is to our right below.
We are going to walk straight ahead .. crossing the above major road .. to get back to the Hotel Pawan.
Below we are now past the above red and yellow sign and are at the road that passes directly in front of the main Post Office and are looking to the right.
Below we are looking to the left.
Below we are looking directly across this major road.
You cannot see it in the above photos .. but in the center of the above intersection is a circular police stand making it a traffic circle. Below I have included some photos I took after I published this Post to show you the traffic circle.
A closer view of the center of the traffic circle.
Below we have crossed the road and are beginning the walk towards the Hotel Pawan. It is a bit of a walk. It is too far up the road to see the road the hotel is on in the distance below.
Below we have gotten to the break in the median wall of the road where the two men are crossing the road in the distance above.
Well Hello! .. We are about to meet several new friends ..
Looking up at the below advertisement you see for .. MAMA CHICKEN MAMA FRANKY HOUSE .. a local attraction! It is further up the road below.
Only in India. What an unusual name .. MAMA CHICKEN MAMA FRANKY HOUSE!
I have gone out onto the road on the left above and shot the below photos from the median strip.
Ah-h-h-h .. Can you see it is well advertised!
There it is .. MAMA CHICKEN MAMA FRANKY HOUSE .. up the side road on the left below.
A view from out on the road.
This is too funny! MAMA CHICKEN MAMA FRANKY HOUSE has a full and stunning menu!
Below I 'pan' the menu from left to right.
AND FREE HOME DELIVERY AS WELL!
What is the big deal here Captain? There is no big deal here. I just pass it daily going to the post office and coming back to the Pawan. I may want to fondly look back upon these photos at some future time.
Back to our walk from the post office.
You have seen the below photo previously but I need to re-orient you to our little walk.
Immediately past the above building we are going to turn to our right and proceed to walk down a strip or a mini-mall for lack of a better term.
The Hotel Pawan is beyond the end of the street you see below.
I zoomed down the street with my camera.
The below photo looks back in the direction we just walked. Do you see the plain back side of the MAMA FRANKY HOUSE billboard ads?
Turning 180 Degrees around from the above photo we see the below view down the strip-mall.
The green and white building below houses several medical facilities.
Below are two closer views of the facade of the above building.
A closer look at the name of the above offices.
I will withhold further comments except to say that I am not so sure I would patronize this particular medical facility!
I have utilized both of the below Internet Cafes during prior year visits.
Just like you see in many of your shopping or mini-malls!! A tractor just motoring along.
You saw the resident cows previously. They are often in this mini-mall when I walk through it daily.
Now we come again to MAMA CHICKEN MAMA FRANKY HOUSE!
Walking past it continuing down the strip or mini-mall.
Oh! I forgot! I have something that I need to get to you FAST. Here .. right close by the Pawan .. is just the firm that I need. I am .. of course .. only kidding you all. It looks pretty IFY!
Today I actually used the below .. up-to-date .. fully-modern A.T.M. facility. And some of you wonder why I have A.T.M. drama sometimes!
We are almost at the end of the strip or mini-mall.
Just what you need Robbie my man!
The Hotel Pawan is through the trees .. more or less .. straight ahead. Can you see the word HOTEL to the left and above the red car below?
Well we are home!
When I am feeling 100% .. if you can believe this .. the above walk only takes me about ten (10) minutes. Sometimes I remain out on the shoulder of the road because it is quicker than walking through the strip or mini-mall.
During the end of this walk .. the young lady below and I got into quite a game-of-it!
Sports fans .. the milk-of-human kindness is not running in her veins! She was intense and she was by-gosh-determined to pick-my-pocket or to get into my over-the-shoulder bag.
I .. on the other hand .. was equally determined to outwit her. She had seen me come out of the above A.T.M. I would shoo her away and she would silently and with stealth suddenly be on my heels.
Some of the street kids are very winsome. They mean no good but still they are winsome. This young lady was all-business.
One ploy I use is to photograph them. Oddly the hard-core street children in general do not like to be photographed. She just stood her ground and so I got the above photo. I then thought she would demand some payment for my having taken her photo. This was not the case at all.
What was this post about? To show you some unvarnished India. This is a real walk in real India .. a beautiful Post Office and then some down-home-India tossed in for good measure.
It was so hot during this walk that my camera itself got very hot to my touch IF you can believe it.
Very Pensive-of-Mood I will sign off .. Cap ..
A big THANK YOU PATTI for proofing this with me! You really helped me a lot to clean it up.

Here in India I always give my mail to a postal clerk and I watch them .. by hand .. post mark my mail. The first time I asked that this be done in Hong Kong .. it was some years ago after I had begun traveling to India .. they looked at me like I was crazy and pointed to the letter drop box in the lobby. Actually they looked insulted when I asked for hand cancelling my mail. You would get this same reaction in the U.S.
