"From Russia with Love Part V?"
"Doesn't the V mean Roman Numberal 5?"
"Where then are Parts I, II, III and IV?"
"All four of them are over at babakaps.net."
"I wanted to show these photos of Ulan-Ude here on blogspot."
If you are also following me on babakaps.net then you have seen some, but certainly not all, of the below photos.
I won't, I am not able to do so even if I wanted to do so, varnish nor paint a flattering, glamorous, photo-picture of Ulan-Ude. It simply is, in a phrase, what it is.
My host was Sergey.
Sergey, would you smile for me?
Thanks Sergey. Could you smile just a little bit more Sergey?
Yes, that's a lot better Sergey. You are on the right track.
"Smile Cap? You want me to smile Cap? Well Cap, how is this?"
What a great host Sergey was during my visit to Ulan-Ude, Russia.
Sergey seemed to know the city of Ulan-Ude like .. Well .. I'm trying to think of a phrase .. Got it.
Sergey seemed to know the City of Ulan-Ude like the back of his hand.
Sergey is a friend of Deegi's.
"Deegi, Sergey is amazing." ..
"Cap, Sergey owns his own taxi cab. He drives his taxi professionally all over Ulan-Ude Cap."
When Saina, Deegi, Cindy and I arrived into the outskirts of Ulan-Ude, Sergey met us. We followed Sergey through Ulan-Ude to his apartment building.
This is why, in so many of the photos you are about to see, you will be seeing the same yellow taxi cab in front of us.
It's Monday night, Are You Ready For Some Football?
Oops. Sorry.
We are in Ulan-Ude, in the Southern part, of the Eastern region, of Russian Siberia.
Are You Ready To See Some Of Ulan-Ude?
In the below photo, you can see the Ulan-Ude welcome sign.
Notice in both the above and below photos, that the traffic lights 'count down' for you. Nice!
Sorry to say, but my schedule was so frantic that I had NO time to explore the streetcar system.
WOWIE !
I did not know it at the time, but when we passed this incredible IMAX, we were almost to Sergey's apartment.
Why do I exclaim .. WOWIE?
I exclaim WOWIE because when I am in a large, foreign city, it is almost life-and-death that I have 'landmarks' in case I get lost or disoriented.
This did not apply here in Ulan-Ude because I was never out-on-the-street alone.
But still, I like to know where I am.
We have arrived at Sergey's apartment building.
Cindy hopped out of the car and went straight to the playground.
No worry about a mal-functioning elevator here at Sergey's place!
Forty two steps, up we go.
Some nice artwork to entertain me as I walk up, and walk down, and up and down.
We are at Sergey's door.
A small passageway after you enter from the staircase.
A bed, fit-for-a-King.
Out past the curtains at the foot of my bed was a small balcony.
The view from my balcony.
Panning from left to right.
A nice kitchen.
While at Sergey's apartment, I ate cereal and yogurt for breakfast.
Wowie !
A washing machine for me to wash my clothes.
My laundry, and Sergey's building, as viewed from a distance.
Out we two went for a late lunch / early dinner.
A big hassle with the cell phone company. They won. I lost.
It's what I am here-to-do. A meeting. I am here for this one reason, and this one reason alone.
This Post is focused upon Ulan-Ude.
What you have seen above down to this point, is the afternoon and evening of Wednesday the 2nd of August 2017.
I did not show our crossing the border from Mongolia into Russia nor the drive North to Ulan-Ude.
Back we go, looking at Ulan-Ude. The photos that follow were taken on Thursday afternoon the 3rd and Friday morning the 4th of August 2017.
I totally 'lost' Thursday morning the 3rd pursuing a dead-end mission to register with the Russian Immigration system.
We ate a nice lunch.
God said, "Close Captain but no cigar. Look Captain, gaze across the street, open your eyes to see what I, God The Creator, have given to you."
"WOWIE God. You are amazing."
Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (aka Lenin).
A meeting.
Where Oh Where did Thursday, the 3rd of August 2017 disappear to?
Friday, the 4th of August 2017. Farewell Ulan-Ude.
Goodbye.. Farewell.. Ulan-Ude.
You are what you are. You treated me very well.
THANK YOU ULAN-UDE.

Thank you for the tour of Ulan-Ude. It appears to be a very modern city, and a big city. Loved that they had a Subway for you! Too bad you did not have time to ride the street cars, much as I know you love them, but I do not know how you could have squeezed one more thing into your few days there. So nice of Deegi's friend Sergey to host you and give you the tour. Smiles ... Patti
ReplyDeleteBetter Late Than Never with these replies to you and to Gullible. Ulan-Ude is both modern and not-so-modern. It is large indeed. Oh yes there simply was NO time for street car riding. You need a pass and all that so it was NOT on the table ever. Sergey was an invaluable host. Love .. Cap
DeleteThat was interesting. DId you have a lunch of soup, bread, and dessert, and then go across the street for a 6-inch tuna from Subway? I see the Subway had a Baskin-Robbins in it,. Did you patronize them?
ReplyDelete1. I did have a lunch of soup, bread, and cake at the Ethno Cafe. Then, after that small meal I .. 2. Went across the street (after I spied the Subway) and ate a 6-inch tuna sub. No I did NOT eat any of Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream. Smiles Gullible. Cap
