This will be the final post in this three part series showing Hillstrand Pond and the ducks that inhabit it.
Patti and I really enjoy going up to Hillstrand Pond to just relax and enjoy the calm and serene setting. The local duck population certainly adds to our enjoyment.
In this post I will focus upon two separate families of ducks.
Off into one of our several local wooded areas and into Hillstrand Pond we begin.
The first family consisted of the mother and eight ducklings. When we first saw this family, the ducklings were already in-their-teens agewise so to speak.
In the above photo you easily see 7 of the 8 ducklings. The 8th duckling is up on the left side visiting with the two Malard ducks that I showed as a couple in Part 2.
In the below photo you see all 8 of the ducklings together.
Seldom did we see all 8 of the ducklings together. Being teen-agers, it seemed like they were setting out on their own to explore their world.
Above and below you can see that the protective mother duck really kept her eyes upon us.
And then?
Suddenly! One day!
They were all-grown-up.
Grown up or not, they remained very close to each other staying together in their little family.
Mother duck continued to keep a wary eye upon us.
Yes the sun came out again.
Now I will show the second duck family.
One day this family of 10 duckings suddenly appeared. Just look at them! You want sweet? Here you have sweet!
Little hands-full of fluff.
These young kindergarden-age ducklings stayed very close to each other and to mom.
In Part 2 of this series of 3 posts, I showed some of our other neighbors who also feed and enjoy the ducks.
Below are some other neighbors enjoying the ducks.
Patti and I also fed the ducks.
We thank each and every one of you who are following us for your interest and support.

Mallards are handsome ducks, especially the male in breeding plumage, and don't get the attention they deserve. I suppose it's because they are so prolific they have become common. Glad this spot is accessible to you.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are handsome. Gullible I'm not sure what you mean by "They don't get the attention they deserve." It is a wonderful pond indeed. We are truly blessed. Cap and Patti
