The postal service from Mongolia to the United States is working !!
Patti just told me that her first post card mailed on Wednesday July the 29th here in Ulaanbaatar has arrived into Anchorage today .. Monday August the 10th. This transit time of twelve (12) days is very acceptable in my opinion ..
JUST THE FACT THAT MAIL ARRIVED IS WONDERFUL .. Let alone the transit time!
With Patti's post card I mailed fifteen (15) others .. so be on the lookout for YOUR post card.
Below is MY Post Office in downtown Ulaanbaatar Mongolia ..
From a distance above and below ..
Oh Yes Sir .. Home Sweet Home postal wise ..
The downtown Ulaanbaatar Post Office is absolutely wonderful and is the best post office I have ever seen anywhere ..
Excellent service ..
And wonder-of-wonders .. They sell a vast number of excellent post cards. Each post card costs 550 Tug (US $ 0.28).
Each stamp costs 1100 Tug (US $ 0.56) .. Notice below the photo of a Mongolian Ger on the stamps ..
A stamped post card ready-to-mail costs 1,650 Tug (US $ 0.83+)
Below is a postal drop box for International Mail ONLY ..
Trust me I know from forty one (41) years of posting mail into the international post .. beginning with my years in Germany from 1974 to 1978 up to my years of travel in India beginning in 1990 ..
The International Postal Service does NOT get any better than this!!
Don't forget .. Tomorrow .. Tuesday August the 11th .. I am taking the train North from Ulaanbaatar to Sukhbaatar ..
Below are photos of the Ulaanbaatar Railway Station ..
Rain is pretty much a way-of-life this past few weeks ..
There are three distinct types of waiting rooms ..
The above waiting room is pretty much basic-bare-bones ..
The above and the below waiting rooms are certainly much more pleasant ..
It is time to board the Trans-Mongolian Siberian Express and head North on the train bound for Moscow ..
I will be getting off the Moscow train in Sukhbaatar near the Russian border in Northern Mongolia ..
ALL ABOARD !!
We are Ready-To-Roll .. Can you hear the air-horn blasting ..
Let me step out of my Mongolian Ger and catch my train ..
I have written this post as-if it were Monday the 10th of August which-it-is for most of you. Actually for me it is Tuesday the 11th of August and I have a train-to-catch in a few hours.
Over-And-Out .. Kanbaatar .. My Mongolian name ..
