APR 14, 19 .. YAKUTSK, RUSSIAN SIBERIA .. THE KINGDOM OF PERMAFROST ..

Do any of you wonder just how I find 'attractions' such as this one? Who has ever heard of the Kingdom of Permafrost?

What is permafrost? I'll let Wikipedia help out :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permafrost

Back to how I find 'attractions'.

I have two methods. I go to Trip Advisor and look for 'Things to do'. My other option is simply to ask friends who live in the local area that I am visiting, "What is there to see here?"

By the way, here in Yakutsk the Kingdom of Permafrost is the top, number one attraction to visit.

On my visit to the Kingdom of Permafrost, I was accompanied by three friends who live here in Yakusk.

I hope that I am not being a 'bore' with my interest in the Russian Cyrillic Alphabet.

Below is Russian for the Kingdom of Permafrost :

 Царстово Вечной Мерзлоты

However in Russian it translates to English as : Kingdom (Царстово) Eternal (Вечной) Permafrost (Мерзлоты).

In actual Russian it is :

Царстово Вечной Мерзлоты 'sounds' as Tsarstovo Vechnoy Merzloty.

Now let's see the Kingdom of Permafrost (Царстово Вечной Мерзлоты).

Below are photos of the entry building.

Now you all know what the below words mean.

Oops! You've got to be very careful here.

Here we are inside of the entry office.

Without me saying one word (a photo says a thousand words) it is great to be visiting during the NON Tourist Season. My friends told me the Kingdom is absolutely swamped with summer visitors.

Adults pay a very reasonable fee of 500 Russian Rubles (U.S. $ 7.69) to enter. I've been told that during the busy summer months there is an additional charge of 200 Russian Rubles (U.S. $ 3.08) if you wish to take photos. I paid nothing for my 120 photos.

The temperature inside the Kingdom remains a fairly consistent +20°F year around. In the summer, local people visit to escape the summer heat that can skyrocket into the +75°F temperature range. These are my kind of people!

Now we are going to enter the Kingdom of Permafrost. Notice every visitor must wear a construction hard hat.

Welcome to the Kingdom of Permafrost.

Below is a map of our route. It is long and it is narrow with a series of individual attractions off to the side of the main route.

Patti did not accompany me for several reasons. It can be slippery and we did not want to risk her falling. There was not one single place to sit down and rest on the entire above route. I was in the Kingdom for about one full hour. Lastly Patti has some issues with claustrophobia. Just the photos Patti saw of the Kingdom on Trip Advisor made her squeamish

After my visit I was extremely happy that Patti stayed home. A visit would have been an absolute, unadulterated nightmare for Patti.

The below photo shows you that it can be just a tad claustrophobic down here under the ground.

There is not much to say except the Ice Sculptures are magnificent.

An Ice Sculpture of Yakutsk's magnificent Gradoyakutskiy Transfiguration Cathedral.

Just in case you've forgotten what the Cathedral looks like, and how magnificent the above Ice Sculptures of it are, see the next photos.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful, Ice Sculptures.

A bearskin rug. You are asked not to touch the sculptures.

This is a map of permafrost regions in the North.

And a fun, ice slide, for the children.

I mean how much fun is all of this!

I did not ask if they actually have curling events down here in the Kingdom.

Stunning, absolutely, positively STUNNING.

We have come to the end of the route through the Kingdom.

Well, that-is-that for the Kingdom of Permafrost here in Yakusk, Russian Siberia.

BUT, it is not the end of this Post.

My above visit to the Kingdom was but the first part of my day. After visiting the Kingdom, my three friends and I went to lunch at the exclusive Chochur Muran Restaurant.

Then after lunch we checked out the local Reindeer.

In the upper right background of the below photo, you can see the Chochur Muran Restaurant where we enjoyed lunch.

And we watched the squealing children having a happy time of their lives.

And now a little surprise for Patti who was not with us and who knows nothing about the following attraction we three enjoyed along with more squealing children.

I could have called this Post : Just another Sunday here in Russian Siberia.

Smiles and Hugs from Patti and Cap

  1. Love your post of your day trip to the Kingdom of Permafrost, the lunch, the dogs. I was especially pleased to see a snow machine pulling a big raft tube loaded with children. You know what I got out of that picture? Russians are just like Americans! They just want to live and enjoy life in peace and health. Awesome Cap. Thanks or sharing.
