We first came to Phoenix in late November of 2016 for my hip replacement surgery. We stayed in Phoenix until early February of 2017. We again returned to Phoenix in February of 2018 staying into March.
During each of these two visits, we (Patti is the fan of butterflies not yours truly) drove past the Phoenix** Butterfly Wonderland (it is located off Loop 101) during each of the above two visits and, during each visit, planned to visit the butterflies.
** The Butterfly Wonderland is actually located in Scottsdale, Arizona, a suburb on the East side of Phoenix.
In 2018 we went to the venue, parked our truck, got out and explored it from the exterior but they were closing soon and the entry fee of $25 was too expensive for a short visit.
A week ago we went online and were somewhat 'turned off ' by the $25 per person entry fee.
Knowing how special butterflies are to Patti, and having visited the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory back in year 2009, and the The Original Mackinac Island Butterfly House & Insect World in 2014, I decided to give Patti a visit to the Phoenix Butterfly Wonderland as her 2020 Saint Valentine's Day present.
Besides, after all that Patti has been experiencing here at the Mayo Clinic with her Barrett's Esophagus, what the heck does the advertised price of fifty bucks amount to?
So out and off the two of us went to visit the Phoenix Butterfly Wonderland the largest indoor butterfly pavilion in America.
Odd. Notice our tickets did not show the cost of admission and looking at the tickets one would think we entered at 9AM. We actually entered at 2PM in the early afternoon.
The entry fee was $24.95. As senior citizens we paid $22.95. Patti had a coupon for $5 off each ticket making the cost $35.90. Adding $2.89 tax we paid $38.79 total ($19.39 each).
Having passed the very pleasant gift shop, onward we proceed.
We saw a really informative and amazing 3D movie about the migration of Monarch Butterflies.
Without the 3D glasses things look really 'blurry'. With them on it looks like you can reach out and touch butterflies.
We are now on-our-way out to the actual butterfly pavilion.
At the end of the above hallway, you find the below display.
This will-do-it for Part 1 of 3.
In Part 2 we will go inside of the pavilion itself.
Well 'there you have it', a fun visit to the Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale (Phoenix), Arizona.
