A little over one year ago, June the 21st, 2021, we signed off on our post titled : PATTI'S FLOWERS .. SUMMER 2021 .. with the following words:
"It gives me a tug of my heart to realize, that at our ages, neither of us know for sure what next Summer will bring us."
At this juncture, a little over a full year has passed and, for better or for worse, having now experienced the covid-19 virus two times, we are still here.
The two of us contacted the covid-19 virus for the second time during two long airline flights on May 13-14, 2022. Complete with a seven hour visit to a Detroit area Emergency Room, this covid episode has really taken its toll!
As a result thereof (long term fatigue, lack of stamina, and other lasting symptoms) Patti (more or less) made the decision in late May to NOT plant flowers this summer. To say the least, the way that Patti traditionally does her summer flowers, is quite a process. And honestly, Patti was just not up to planting summer flowers this year.
This past Monday evening / Tuesday morning, I had a dream. A dream that I could NOT get out of. A dream that was so real that I actually thought it WAS real.
In my dream, I had purchased a very, very, small tree. A teeny weenie small little tree (say 18-inches long) with its boughs or branches pressed down flat against its trunk so it was really a cylindrically shaped combination of its truck and branches.
As I took it home, it began to grow! By the time I got it home, it had grown to be 5 feet tall!
So I decided to dig a hole in the ground and push it down into the hole because it simply would not fit into a mere flower planting box.
And??
When I awoke from my dream, I actually got up and went out to our back yard to see my newly planted tree!
OH My, OH My, it was only a dream!
And??
I said to myself, "THAT does it. I am going to buy, if nothing more, one small plant and I myself will plant it into one of Patti's planter boxes. Patti WILL HAVE some summer flowers this summer!"

And now (Thank You Mister Paul Harvey) ..
THE REST OF THE PETUNIA STORY
When Patti awoke, after breakfast, after explaining my dream and the fact that I would do all of the work, without one whimper of opposition, out and off Patti and I went to Home Depot and Walmart to purchase ME a small plant.
And??
Patti got involved in finding me MY plant. We ended up going to two Home Depot Stores as well as our local Walmart.
After Patti lovingly selected them, I very carefully secured MY two Vigoro Petunias in the rear of our Suburban. I did not want them to be rolling around and getting injured en route home to our Condo!
These are Patti's first ever Petunias.
We are home and the action is underway! Patti first swept up our living room porch to welcome our new flower babies!
Patti first had to water the soil, which was very dry, and loosen the soil with a hand trowel.
The first planter box is ready to receive its Vigoro Petunia!
Patti's first Vigoro Petunia was ready to be planted!
This I would not have known to do. Patti carefully removed the bottom part of the Petunia's roots because they were root-bound and the plant needed a fresh beginning in its new home.
Into its new home a very grateful Vigoro Petunia goes!
It IS quite a process!
The first Petunia IS planted. Now comes the second Petunia.
Oh My, Oh My, will you just look at Patti's concentration!
The second planter box is ready to receive its Petunia!
What a project for Patti!
A very proud and deserving and happy Patti!
Along with her two very happy Vigoro Petunias!
Our view looking outside from our living room couch.
Thank You One, and Thank You ALL, for sharing with us this small victory!
Patti and Cap
A jump ahead in time to Sunday Afternoon, September 25th 2022 for a photo of Patti's Petunias (approximately) two months after she planted them July the 28th.
They are really looking good but, it was 38°F this morning and the approaching frost will be their parting for this lifetime.
