Because it is the "Longest Day of the Year" for those of use who live in the North, not too far South of the Arctic Circle, The Summer Solstice is a very important day here in Alaska and other "far Northern" Countries.
Commencing with the Winter Solstice, our "Shortest Day of the Year", we begin to look forward to the days slowly beginning to grow longer as we approach our Spring and Summer months and the very long days.
