MAY 9, 15 .. THE CHI LIN NUNNERY ..

Saturday .. May 9th .. 2015 .. I originally published this Post back on March the 20th.

The CHI LIN NUNNERY and the NAN LIAN GARDEN are attached-at-the hip so-to-speak. The two of them are literally across Fung Tak Road from one another in the Diamond Hill District of Kowloon.

I decided to move this Post forward here to May 9th because I want the Posts of each attraction to be immediately above and below one another for the convenience of a future reader who may happen along here.

I have ADDED several photos to the below Post that I snapped during Patti's visit to Hong Kong from March 28th to May 2nd 2015.

The CHI LIN NUNNERY is so special some of you may want to look -it-over again.

SMILES .. Cap in Hong Kong ..

I begin this Post with one of my rhetorical questions.

A rhetorical question does not want nor require an answer.

Rhetorical Question :

Why is it that the local residents of a city or a town or a place often do NOT see all of the 'local sights' of their own area?

Now this may seem odd to some of you but since I have been here in Hong Kong since November the 13th 2014 .. I consider myself to be living here in Hong Kong at least for the time being. After all I have my own small studio apartment and I have a Hong Kong mailing address and I have a Hong Kong 'smart' cell phone. So as a local resident I have the right NOT to know what the local sights are! Said with a wink and a giggle!

On Saturday, the 7th of February, 2015, I welcomed Patti's niece Eryn and Her Man Jason to Hong Kong as their 'wanna be' host.

Meet Eryn (aka Patti's princess!) and Jason!

After we traveled into the city from the airport we dropped their luggage off at their room at the HOMY INN in Kowloon and immediately dashed off to enjoy a meal!

The two of them were very impressed with the nightlife on a Saturday night at 12 o'clock midnight in Hong Kong!

As I have written many times .. I am an active financial contributor to WIKIPEDIA. I think the work they do is absolutely phenomenal.

I use GOOGLE to find the wealth of information on the internet and usually end up at WIKIPEDIA!

The Chi Lin Nunnery (Chinese志蓮淨苑pinyinZhìlián Jìng Yuàn) is a large Buddhist temple complex located in Diamond HillKowloonHong Kong

"Captain how in the world have we gotten to a Buddhist Temple named the Chi Lin Nunnery?"

Not said as a rhetorical question! YOU want an answer don't you?

"Ah Captain .. Have you forgotten you are on blogspot NOT dot net?"

Sunday morning February the 8th dawned bright and sunny and off we dashed for breakfast!

We joined my friend Mr. Yuen for quite a 'Breakfast' .. Quote Breakfast End Quote!

Two plates of Singapore Rice Noodles (Eryn and Cap) and Jason had 'something else' that kindda sortta looked like this ..

After breakfast off we dashed .. Jason in the lead with Eryn and myself following closely behind!

AND?

We ended up in a most incredible place ..

Thanks Jason and Eryn .. I name Jason first because it was Jason who planned this visit on Sunday February 8, 2015. I the 'local boy' am now aware of one absolutely phenomenal local sight!

I will Thank You now Jason and Eryn and I will Thank You when I finish this Post! I will Thank You for the gift to me of ..

THE CHI LIN NUNNERY

First a little overview of the CHI LIN NUNNERY.

In the above photo the CHI LIN NUNNERY is on the left.  On the right of the above street (Fung Tak Road) across from the Nunnery is the NAN LIAN GARDEN.

I begin by placing the CHI LIN NUNNERY into its proper perspective! The below photo shows you that the CHI LIN NUNNERY is NOT in some extremely remote far-away quiet and serene place.

Quite the opposite. The CHI LIN NUNNERY is slipped in between the skyscrapers of Kowloon the large city North of Hong Kong across Victoria Harbor !

The skyscrapers not withstanding .. the nunnery is most certainly and amazingly quiet and serene!

To get there we rode the MTR to the Diamond Hill station on the Green Line ..

Then we found Exit C2 which takes you to the 15-minute walk to the Nunnery.

There you begin the walk up from the street into the Nunnery ..

Feel the Silence!

Ah-h-h-h .. Gaze upon the below scene and just feel the quiet and the peace and the serenity!

To get you all in-the-proper Buddhist Mood ..

Below is a small 'fresher-upper' for you who are learning Mandarin!

What's that 'Zilla? .. Not fair you say? .. OK! .. Below I am giving you the Mandarin with the English 'sub-titles' to assist you!

It makes me more than a little bit crazy when we in the West seem to think that we have all of the answers for the rest of the world! Um-m-m-m where exactly are our great thinkers and wise philosophers I wonder?

You like the English Sub-Titles .. Thank You 'Zilla!

In the below photos you will notice a skyscraper or two peeking in on us.

Below we have a rather serious Buddha!

No photographs were to be taken of the Hall of Celestial Kings but I wanted to show the below plaque.

Patti really enjoyed the CHI LIN NUNNERY when we visited it in early April!

I am sorry that this Post is now complete. Just putting up the photos has put me into a quiet and calm frame of mind.

A Promise Made Is A Debt Unpaid .. Robert W. Service .. The Cremation of Sam McGee ..

AND I PROMISED Jason and Eryn one last Thank You for taking me along with them to the CHI LIN NUNNERY.

Taa-Daa ..

THANK YOU JASON AND THANK YOU ERYN FOR THE GREAT GIFT TO ME OF THE CHI LIN NUNNERY!

Signing Off .. calm and serene .. Cap and Patti ..

  1. I had also gone onto Google to research the Chi Lin Nunnery ... looks like a beautiful place, and Eryn has told me on the phone, it is "peaceful" ... that says a LOT in Hong Kong! It is so nice to imagine the three of you together...you as their guide, and them leading you to places you have not been to nor would likely have discovered if not for their "research" ahead of getting there. Nice. Sweet. Hugs to all of you. Patti

  2. Beautiful photos, Cap. Have you picked up a tourist brochure of things to do in Hong Kong so you can explore on your own? Or for that matter, just Google it.

    1. Yes I have picked up several local guides. Also Eryn and Jason left with me their Lonely Planet Guide to Hong Kong. In my opinion the Lonely Planet Guides are as good as guides can get.
