I NOW HAVE CLOSE TO FOUR (400) HUNDRED PHOTOS THAT I HAVE TAKEN SINCE I LEFT HONG KONG LAST THURSDAY JULY THE 16th.
THE IDEAL WAY I WANTED TO PRESENT THEM WAS FIRST PHOTO FIRST .. MY BUS RIDE TO THE DOWNTOWN AIRPORT STATION IN HONG KONG ..
Then checking in with Mongolian Airlines.
Then sixty (60) or so photos later as I watched MY PLANE arrive at the departure gate.
Easing its way up to MY departure gate ..
I flew up to Mongolia with one of CHINGGIS' KHAAN's grandsons Khubelai ..
A few facts about Khubilai Khaan from the CHINGGIS' KHAAN Memorial and Museum.
Just one on-board photo .. I took others. It was a great flight on Mongolian Airlines! Just look at how the cabin 'sparkles'!
My 'to-die-for' meal ..
Beef and Rice with fixings. Note above the single food containers. One dessert .. One Salad ..
The additional food containers you see below speak to the fact I ate the lunches of my two seat mates .. THEY were drinking a LOT of free beer .. THEY could have cared less about food ..
I snapped far more than two cloud photos ..
My first look at the earth of Mongoloia ..
Welcome to Ulaanbaatar Mongolia spelled as one word! It is more common to spell it Ulaan Baatar (or 'UB') with two words.
Our wonderful greeters .. Oldokh and the left and Deegi on the right ..
The airport entrance ..
IF ONLY I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ..
THAT I WAS MOVING TO MONGOLIA ..
I WOULD HAVE BROUGHT MORE OF MY THINGS FROM HONG KONG WITH ME HERE TO ULAAN BAATAR!!

Instead of a long post about the flight up to Ulaan Baatar I have decided to begin my Mongolia adventure with my most recent news!

Deegi arranged, with one of her good friends we all call HAPPY (because truly he is HAPPY), for me to have my own apartment during my stay here.
I have my own apartment and I am good-to-go for the near future!
I have my own apartment and I am good-to-go for the near future!
"What's that you say Miss Hong Kong? Some fears about Miss Mongolia stealing my heart away from you Miss Hong Kong?"
Here we go ..
Ulaan Baatar ('UB') is the capital city of Mongolia. 'UB' is what I would call a 'working man's city' ..
Below are photos of the closest main street to my apartment. They pan from left to right.
Here in 'UB' we had a little afternoon rain today. Actually we have been having afternoon rains each and every single day that I have been here in Mongolia.
The first three photos below were taken from my Erin Hotel that I stayed at last Friday, Saturday and Sunday (last night).
Yes indeed that is a small lake you see below.
Below I am looking back from the Erin Hotel at the above lake.
And this afternoon as I left the Erin Hotel it was in a driving rainstorm!
Now to my 'new digs' here in Ulaan Baatar Mongolia.

HAPPY'S APARTMENT
When I snapped the above photo I was standing in the center of the street that leads into my apartment building. Turning 180 degrees around you see the below scene. My apartment building will be to the right at the end of the below street.
I have included the below photo taken near my building to show you the 'general-look' of my residential area.
Turning around to your right from the above photo you can see MY apartment building. The blue building with the white center section.
Two photos of the street immediately in front of my building.
I have been here in Mongolia all of four days and I have concluded that those who live in the Land of Chinggis Khaan are hale and hearty people!
"Ah-h-h what's a little rain Captain!"
Below is the entrance to my building. Scenic with the lake huh?
To get into the building you must enter the correct security code. Note some Mongolian words below.
Now we are inside of my building.
Up the steps we go.
After we go up the stairs we turn left and again left and find the elevator up to the 7th floor.
The door into the elevator opens ..
We wait a few (LONG) seconds for the light to come on inside of a pitch-black elevator and we press the center button on the right row of buttons. I can already do this in-the-dark.
We walk out of the elevator and turn immediately to our left and the door directly ahead of us is .. taa-daa .. MY DOOR!
Opening what turns out to be a first heavy metal exterior door I find a second more dressy wooden interior door.
HAPPY'S APARTMENT .. INSIDE WE GO !!
We are now inside of my apartment!
Immediately to the left is the very complete and fully stocked kitchen.
Do you suppose that the comfortable sofa is in the kitchen so you can rest while watching the cook prepare your dinner?
And now for MY PHENOMENALLY BEAUTIFUL ROOM!
Panning to the right in the following three photos.
What on earth could that be that I am seeing out of the corner of my right eye in the below photo?
Looking back at the entry door.
The oriental rug on the wall to the left is enormous. And what am I seeing ahead of me on the table by the door?
"Does the Dell Desk Top Computer over there work?"
"Yes it does but it is not connected to the Internet."
"IF I pay for an internet connection can we make-it-happen?"
"Yes certainly."
My man is named Happy. And I am so happy to be here in what I believe to be one of his homes.
Inside of this knick-knack closet are a myriad of treasures!
The Mongolians seem to LOVE ANIMALS!
Back to the view as you enter the apartment. Directly ahead to the lower left of the clock is a door.
Inside of the door is one very important item.
Oh Yes! A Real Western Sitter!
To the right of the above water closet is a second room with a sink and bathtub and other items.
I am not sure what this is below. I am not going to wait on publishing this Post while I find out!
Now let's take a look outside the windows of my new digs here in Ulaan Baatar Mongolia. Each of the following exterior photographs were taken from the kitchen window.
As you certainly can see .. I am in the midst of a large apartment complex.
Central Ulaan Baatar is out there in the distance.
You can't see them because of some fog and sun but to the left in the distance are some nice green hills.
Looking straight down out of the kitchen window.
How many times have I stated that .. You either believe .. Or you don't believe.
I never say you understand because there is no way any of us can understand this world of ours. Much less the mind of our creator.
Because of the following I have come to feel very close to the people here in Mongolia. Silly you say? Sure I can see your point.
In all of history one of the most famous of men is CHINGGIS KHAAN. His first name is spelled differently in several places .. CHINGGIS and below in the museum as CHINGIS ..
Look at his last name .. K H A N N ..
The alternate red letters spell .. K A N ..
When I received my name badge for the weekend assembly I could NOT believe my name Cap in Mongolian was spelled as .. KAN ..
So me being named KAN I felt a little bit like a Little KAN .. and a Mongolian-At-Heart ..
Below is the BIG KHAAN ..
You can walk up stairs on the inside of the horse to get a close look at his face. Above on the horse's mane above his ears you can see itty-bitty people up there.
Whew .. Talk about a Bad-Dude!
Well Sports Fans with good news comes some not-so-good news.
The Good News .. the GREAT NEWS .. is the fact that here in my room .. literally at the foot of my bed .. is a Dell Desktop Computer and it is up and running.
So what is the not-so-good-news.
LORD GOD IN HEAVEN ABOVE .. YOU WANT SLOW? .. OH-MY-OH-MY .. I NEVER KNEW WHAT THE SLOW PACE I HAVE HAD TO ENDURE COULD BE LIKE.
"What's that Gullible?"
"Please Captain .. Just one photo of Mongolia?"
"Well since it is you Gullible .. I certainly can arrange that .. Just-For-You Gullible."
The small round white huts are Mongolian Gers.
Mongolia certainly has some rugged terrain based on my short time here.
Ceremonial Gers shown below.
Wide-Open-Spaces .. With Gers ..
What a sweet little fellow he was.
"No problem Sir .. I don't mind being petted at all!"
Just a typical Mongolian breakfast I was led to believe.
I think that the below breakfast is a far more traditional Mongolian morning meal ..
Me-Being-Me I ate the breakfast of two fellow travelers who showed quite a bit of 'disdain' for the above fare and did not touch theirs.
Well since I just mentioned 'others' .. Why not show the crew that came from Singapore and China and Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur and Australia and Bali and the UK and several Mongolians as well as me from Alaska.
Below is the .. There-Is-One-In-Every-Crowd .. member!
"I hear you Gullible. More Mongolia Captain!"
A lot of wild range horses.
And the camp-kitty just kept coming up up and up with me and my buddy Mark from China who went to the top as I flagged-out and rested.
My Ger was the fifth up from the bottom on the line of Gers on the left.
Well That Will Be It for my opening Post about Mongolia.
I come here to Mongolia and I feel like I am home. I mention I would like to stay awhile and here I am. Snap-Your-Fingers quick and I have The-Place-Of-All-Places to stay awhile in.
Lord God Of Abraham .. Will I Ever Learn How This All Works?
With Profound Joy .. Cap .. aka .. KAN in Mongolia ..
JUST DO IT KAN .. PRESS PUBLISH AND LET-IT-ROLL ..

I can hardly believe it ... then again, because it is you, I believe it! You are "settled" in Mongolia. You even have a computer in your FULLY equipped apartment...lovely people who are "guiding you" ... the one thing you might want to add is water wings if those streets fill any further with water! Great photos ... love seeing the Gers, the horses, the lamb, the kitty, and, and, and. Many smiles. It is nice to hear you sounding so happy, excited and fulfilled on the phone. Love, Patti
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words on this my opening Post about Mongolia! I arrive into Ulaan Baatar on Thursday and here I am .. thanks to the special people here who made it happen and I mean NOW .. I am 'settled in' for a month or maybe more. It will be fun to be on a train and traveling to other places here in Mongolia knowing people will be meeting me to host me. Am I lucky or am I lucky. I do feel good about this first Post. Love ..
