AUG 25, 15 .. SUKHBAATAR MONGOLIA AND ENVIRONS ..

The time has come the Walrus said to publish a post showing Sukhbaatar Mongolia. If you are following along here with some regularity you know I have made two round-trips from Ulaanbaatar North to Sukhbaatar. One by automobile and one by train.

Many of the photos I am going to post here you have already seen because they were included within the posts about my automobile and trains trips to and from Sukhbaatar.

To make this a complete post about Sukhbaatar I am going to show some of them again.

In this post you will read that 'we' did this or that 'we' did that. I traveled WITH my friends Deegi and her husband Saina.

They were kind enough to take me with-them on their automobile trip from Ulaanbaatar to Sukhbaatar and return. They took me to the Russian border and to Saihnii Hutul National Park that I show in the next post following this post.

Thank You So Very Much Deegi and Saina!!

The welcome monument located on the Southern outskirts of Sukhbaatar is absolutely outstanding.

I have included the below city limit sign to show you the spelling of Sukhbaatar in Mongolian and English.

'ZILLA I AM NOT GOING TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION OF WHICH-IS-WHICH ..

Each of the three legs of the monument have two different scenes .. one on each side of each leg .. showing ancient Mongolian warriors.

What an outstanding welcome monument.

Driving into Sukhbaatar the first thing I noticed was what appears to be an enormous grain elevator.

Is it a grain elevator? .. It sure looks like one to me.

I have spent four (4) nights in Sukhbaatar in the below hotel.

My room number 2 is up on the second floor directly across from the restroom.

The resident kitty .. Talk about a life!

A very basic serviceable room ..

The cost per night was 25,000 Mongolian Tug or US $ 12.68 ..

A shared common restroom ..

A very handy convenience store downstairs ..

Not every day that I spent in Sukhbaatar was sunny and bright.

Actually I batted 50-50. Two days were sunny and bright and two days were rainy and gray.

A few street scenes of the street in front of the hotel ..

On the extreme right of the above photo is another convenience store I show below.

The below young lady is Anu. Her mother owns the store. After being totally amazed at her absolutely perfect English Anu told me she was in her third year at the University of Nebraska Omaha Campus in the International Studies Program.

Thanks to Anu I discovered Miss Pop Corn in Sukhbaatar .. Anu told me it came up from Ulaanbaatar ..

I then knew to look-for-popcorn here in Ulaanbaatar and I found it!!

The Sukhbaatar railway station is across the street from my hotel. It is the white colored building between the two lamp poles below.

On my second trip the weather was all rain. Just a few photos of the Sukhbaatar railway station.

On my first trip I was able to get some excellent photos of Sukhbaatar from the vantage point of the below monument.

Talk about a stunning day .. Just look at it ..

Looking out over Sukhbaatar ..

Looking to the left ..

Panning slowly to the right .

The heart of downtown .. You can't help but notice the extent of the railway yard ..

The same view as above but with NO telephoto effect ..

A nice river ..

I sure lucked-out with the weather on my first trip to Sukhbaatar!!

Continuing around to the right ..

I walked down from the top of the monument to the road and snapped the below photos ..

That pretty much does-it for Sukhbaatar.

"What's that 'Zilla?" .. "What did 'we' DO in Sukhbaatar?" ..

"We hung out with some friends 'Zilla."

We ate a little food so that we would not starve-to-death ..

We took after-dinner naps in Gers ..

Many children came along for the fun.

Now to the environs to the North of the city.

Sukhbaatar is very close to the border with Russia. I was able to go to the border and have a look-see ..

Below is a very small border station on a side road.

Now we are going to the major border crossing into Russia ..

Mongolians seem to really like to welcome people into their cities in a grand fashion. In English this is the city of Altanbulag across the International border from the Russian city of Khyagt.

Speaking of nice Mongolian city limit signs will you just look at the one below for Darkhan.

Altanbulag is a small and seemingly quiet village.

The view of Altanbulag as we slowly motor into it.

We have arrived at the International border crossing .. Below is the Mongolian control point. To the left of the photo (follow the string of automobiles) the red building in the distance is the Russian control point in Khyagt Russia.

This is one time to obey a sign ..

The large red building is the Russian control point in Khyagt Russia.

That was that for photos. I did not particularly want my camera seized and possibly taken away from me because I inadvertently mis-stepped with a photo.

Scenery as we headed back South to Sukhbaatar ..

An hour ago it was sunny and bright! You can see how suddenly the weather in Mongolia can change.

The sign speaks-for-itself ..

Above are three prominent cities in the North of Mongolia. I showed photos of Darkhan in posts of both my automobile and train trips to Sukhbaatar.

I believe that this monument is in honor of the first wife of Chinggis Khaan. She was from this area of Northern Mongolia.

There you have it .. Sukhbaatar and neighboring environs ..

Very close to Sukhbaatar is the Saihnii Hutul National Park that I show you in the next post following this post.

Much Joy ..
