JAN 9, 23 (2/3) .. A ROAD TRIP FROM LAUGHLIN, NEVADA, UP TO SEARCHLIGHT, NEVADA

In Part 1 of 3 in the above post, we showed photos along U.S. Hwy 95 that we snapped as we drove North from Laughlin, Nevada, to Searchlight, Nevada. We also explained in Part 1 of 3 what this short road trip was about.

We have arrived in Searchlight, Nevada. Just look at the billboard in the below photo ! 11 Restaurants, a showroom (??), movie theaters, bowling and a spa and maybe more!

Our number one-and-only place we stop as we are travelling to or from Las Vegas, is TERRIBLE'S Casino and Convenience Store and the McDonalds. We have never purchased gasoline at the Chevron gas station.

We have never ever gambled at the small but traditional Casino.

Why is it called Terrible Herbst?

Herbst founded Terrible Herbst in 1959. The name repurposed an old slight toward Herbst's father, Ed, who opened Martin Oil in Chicago in 1938. “Back in Chicago, every time my dad would open a new service station, the competition would say, "Here comes that terrible Herbst,'” Jerry Herbst said in 2014.

Now we will continue to drive North up U.S. Hwy 95 and see a little more of Searchlight.

In Part 1 of 3 of this series of posts, we name three reasons for our trip to Searchlight.

First. When we fly from Anchorage to Las Vegas, Nevada, and onward via U.S. Hwy 95 to Laughlin, Nevada, we always (there are no other options) pass through Searchlight and stop to stretch our legs and maybe grab a bite to eat after our long flight from Anchorage. Searchlight is a welcome oasis in the Nevada desert. Going home we again enjoy a short rest on our way North. We have never stopped, until now, to explore Searchlight.

Second. Our friend Michael in Lake Havasu City has told us many times about a famous recovery meeting on Wednesday evenings in Searchlight. However, we have never visited this meeting. So for several years we have wanted to visit this meeting.

Third. Our GMC Suburban was stolen on Christmas Eve Day, December 24th 2021. It was found and recovered in the Searchlight, Nevada, area at Cottonwood Cove on the Colorado River.

For the past year, we have been wanting to see exactly where Black Beauty was when he was recovered.

Before going to the Wednesday evening 7pm recovery meeting here in Searchlight, we met two friends from Las Vegas and enjoyed dinner together at the Denny's Restaurant in Searchlight.

To be honest, neither Patti nor I have ever really focused upon, nor have we really noticed this really pleasant Denny's Restaurant in Searchlight.

Nevada could be nicknamed The Casino State ! Step inside and you are greeted by slot machines.

Into the restaurant we go.

And then ? My brain went-to-sleep and I did NOT think to photograph the five (5) fine meals we enjoyed. Had I photographed our meals and posted the photos, poor Gullible might have fainted, fallen over, and hurt herself. She really thinks all we eat are Singapore Rice Noodles and Subway Tuna Footlong sandwiches.

After dinner we went to our meeting just-up-the-road from Denny's.

The meeting was several notches above outstanding. Easily one of the more remarkable meetings Patti and I have attended around the U.S. and the world as well ! We are planning to attend this meeting again on March 29th !
