NOV 26, 14 .. HONG KONG / KOWLOON STREET SCENES ..

Before I begin .. I want to THANK YOU ALL for NOT pressing me for more scenes of Hong Kong. I have to establish my own rhythm here.  I am approaching two weeks here and finally I am begining to feel some relief from the Jet Lag.  I stress the word 'some' .. I am not fully adjusted to the time difference but I am feeling much better.

I imagine that some of you are restless to see more photographs of Hong Kong.  As in .. "Cap we know you love your Singapore Rice Noodles. We know you love your Star Ferries."

BUT! .. how about some street scenes?

Well here we go!

This one IS for you Karolynn 99502-5469 and for all of you KML ladies.  Thanks for your support.  Truly it means a lot to me! Thanks for lending Patti to me for this trip!

Below are a number of 'totally-random' street scenes that I photographed primarily in the Tsim Sha Tsui district of Kowloon. At the bottom of this Post are a few scenes of Hong Kong.

We have two words here .. Kowloon .. and .. Hong Kong.

Kowloon is two things. (1) Kowloon is a city across Victoria Harbor from Hong Kong.  (2) Kowloon is also the Kowloon Peninsula of Mainland China.

Hong Kong on the other hand is three things.  (1) Hong Kong is a city.  (2) Hong Kong is an island.  (3) Hong Kong .. like many of our large cities .. is a metropolitan  area.  As such the Hong Kong metro area encompasses Kowloon and other districts within its metropolitan area.

The two of them  .. Kowloon and Hong Kong .. are 'sister' cities.  Much like San Francisco and Oakland .. Minneapolis and St. Paul .. Detroit and Windsor ..

Here we go with a few photographs of the Tsim Sha Tsui District of Kowloon.

How do I do this?  Patti has Red Hair!

Below Patti is in front of The Spaghetti House. I had to choose to have the Spaghetti House sign clear or to have Patti clear.. I chose Patti!

Find the below Mandarin character in the above photo.  It is purple above and green below.

Below is the almost identical photograph at night.  Find the above Mandarin character in the below night time photo.

Patti's book store (below) is straight up the above street on the left.

Oh  Captain My Captain .. do your words mean nothing My Captain? Above you admitted that you believe that all of your followers are sick and tired of Singapore Rice Noodle photos .. and ..

What have we coming below My Captain?

Below (lower left corner) is my favorite restaurant for my beloved Singapore Rice Noodles at the Sun Yuen Restaurant.

Mister Lin Lee Yuen .. is the owner of Yuen's my favorite Singapore Rice Noodle Restaurant.

What a break-through!  After years and years and YEARS of eating in his restaurant!  Suddenly the walls of cool inscrutable reservation towards me came crashing down!  In a twinkling he became a warm and gracious friend!

Hush now .. please do NOT tell Mister Lin Lee Yuen this .. but I do eat Singapore Rice Noodles at many other restaurants.

Did you all know that I can 'read minds'?  Yes!  The young lady above is thinking to herself .. That Man is taking MORE photographs of his Singapore Rice Noodles!

Can you all tell that I am having FUN!

Ah Nathan Road in Kowloon .. a major road.

Note my Union Mansion (red brick building) on the left edge of the below photo.

Riding Hong Kong's MTR subway to a meeting.

The Mariners Club is a local Kowloon landmark.

Below is 'MY' Post Office in Kowloon.

Do you see the Mariners Club in the extreme top right corner of the below photo?

My Post Office is at the end of the street on the left and the Mariners Club is behind it.

A partial photo of the Salisbury Road YMCA where Patti and I stayed.  I plan to do a Post showing only the YMCA.

Very Beautiful! Very Tender! The Christmas Season is coming to Hong Kong China! .. and it isn't even Thanksgiving in the USA yet!  The Chinese are ahead of us in many ways!

My Dear Patti .. It seems as if a dream.  We looked forward to this trip for months and now it has come and gone.  What memories we have!

The below photo was taken from the 9th floor of the YMCA and it looks-down-upon the scenes in the above four photos.

Words simply fail me!

Oh My!  Doesn't everyone love a Carousel !  Google .. Wikipedia .. what on earth would I do without you?

Can you make out the Spaghetti House sign in the background?

Again .. words simply fail me!  How very touching and how very tender this children's Carousel is .. here in China of all places.

The two below photographs are of a 'food court' within the lower level of the Silvercord Building in Kowloon. Yes! It truly is more-than-a-bit OVERWHELMING!

The below photo was taken in the Tsim Sha Tsui Station of the underground metro system.

Below is a photo of Kowloon Park .. an enormous city park in Kowloon.  Patti was impressed with the green areas through out the Hong Kong area.  Nice city planning!

Now we will take a look at some of Kowloon 'after-dark'.

The photo above shows the sign the best.  The photo below shows Patti the best!

Of course!  The buses are out at night!

Stunning!

Nice isn't it?

Below is the building in the background of the above two photos taken from a distance.

The remainng photos below were all snapped in Hong Kong.

Ah-h-h .. Yes!  There certainly is traffic at night.

The Apple Store is simply Beyond-The-Beyond!

And I get to experience all of this!

Below are a few photos of DOWNTOWN Hong Kong. You can see a different ambiance from Kowloon above.

There you have it.  WHAT A PLACE!  All of it!

Cheerio!  I am so very lucky to be here!   Cap

  1. Cap, you continually out-do yourself. This post makes me homesick for Hong Kong/Kowloon/You and I am not even unpacked yet, haven't gotten through my stack of mail, haven't let hardly anyone even know I am back in Anchorage! You really know how to "pull me in". Thanks for the memories that just came alive once again!!! Loving you...Patti

  3. Quite a difference between the cities. The buildings in Hong Kong show some imaginative architecture.

    1. Down in West Texas are two cities .. Midland and Odessa. Midland is the Company Town and Odessa is the Drillers Town. I feel there is a similar relationship between Hong Kong and Kowloon. Hong Kong definitely is in its own class. Kowloon is more laid back and relaxed with nothing to prove so to speak. The working class travelers and backpackers tend to center themselves here in Kowloon. Not that there are no high class hotels here in Kowloon because the Peninsula Hotel is supposedly in the top class of hotels in the Hong Kong Metro Area .. Smiles .. Cap ..

  4. You have gifted me with a wonderful taste of Kowloon and Hong Kong. The buildings, the people, the lights, the traffic and all the activity is nearly making me dizzy. I'm so glad you're feeling better and I'm sure you're even better now, a few days after you posted this.

Thank you for posting this look into what you're seeing.
