Today, my second full day here in ABAKAN ( АБАКАН ), RUSSIAN SIBERIA .. I went out for a two hour walk.
I had a mission. I wanted to go to the shopping center where we went last Monday night when we arrived.
At 2pm this afternoon, out and off went your Captain.
As many of you know, landmarks are absolutely essential for me to establish. I can NOT afford to get lost in a large foreign city.
Sure, I could call Mike on my cell phone but how do I describe where I am?
Bottom line : I can't allow myself to get lost!
"Hi Cap. I'm sorry your are lost. Please tell me where you are."
"Cap? Are you there Cap?"
Here are some exterior photos of my building here in АБАКАН.
My flat is on the third floor of the extreme left end of the building. I did not think to hang something bright and colorful from the sun porch so you could clearly see it.
In the below photo, my building is the furthest one down the access road on the left.
My building (lower center below) from a distance.
Looking up the adjoining street at its intersection with the access road into my building. Miles of high rise apartments.
Now I will show you some of my landmarks. I told Patti to start giggling when she sees one particular major-for-me landmarks.
Below is my first landmark. When I see this corner and the park in the distance, I know to turn to my right and go up to the access road into my building.
The colorful (you can't miss it) sign of my local pharmacy is a landmark.
A great landmark.
Another distinctive, can't-miss-it landmark.
The most special landmark of today is:
"Envelope Please."
How on this good earth could I not have the below shop as my most special landmark today?
Well Patti My Dear One! Did you giggle when you came upon the above landmark?
The next photos are just several general photos of the street scene in Abakan.
Below is a 'selfie' to show you my bright yellow cap I wear for improved visibility.
I am loving my four-footed cane. He is a real stoic. He just stands and waits patiently for me to snap a photo or two and then continue his life's work helping me.
Joy and Smiles from ABAKAN ( АБАКАН ), RUSSIAN SIBERIA.

Post Script : I did NOT, at any time get / or feel lost. However, I did NOT find the shopping center that I set out to find. Mike told me when I got home that I went left at the park ..
When I should have gone right!

Yes, I giggled when I saw the Tupperware store! I have never seen such colorful tupperware!! Too bad you did not find your SUPER market, but you did say on the phone last night that you found a smaller store on your 2 hour walk. Always good to pay attention to landmarks so you can find your way back home. Smiles, love. Patti
ReplyDeleteGetting out, and taking a long and leisurely walk, is the best thing I can do to familiarize myself with an area. There is absolutely no substitute for me. It did not help that the only time I went to the large shopping mall was at night, in a car, during the first hours of arriving after a 7-1/2 hour bus trip. When I saw that great Tupperware store I just had to take some photos for you to see. Talk about an excellent landmark! I knew you'd get a giggle when you saw it. And truly it is a great store. I don't think that I've ever seen a Tupperware store have you? It was good to get home safe and sound. Love Cap
