Today my friend, Alexzay (who knows how to wear his hair correctly) ..
Who lives in МИНУСИНСК (Minusinsk) ..
Drove 25 Km over here to АБАКАН (Abakan) ..
Picked me up, and drove me back over to МИНУСИНСК (Minusinsk).
I'd asked Alexzay if he would show me a few of the local attractions here in МИНУСИНСК (Minusinsk).
I am really 'drawn' to all of the Russian Orthodox Churches I see here. This sweet little fellow just captivated me.
This is important. Our visit to the below chapel was as we were leaving town after a few hours photographing other attractions here in Minusinsk. It was all that I could do to muster up the energy to get back out into the cold and take more photos.
THE CHAPEL OF SAINT PANTELEIMON
IF you are interested, just trot over to Wikipedia and check him out.

How I ask (Rhetorically) could I not love this sweet chapel?
In the below photos, I walk around the exterior of the Chapel.
The time has come to take a look inside.
We get a lot of messages from the world of religion.
Jesus said : Love one another even your enemies.
The Bible states : Judge not that ye not be judged.
Mother Teresa said : It's not what you do for God and others, it's the love with which you do your acts of kindness that counts.
I am NOT judging here. I am OBSERVING.
Inside of the Chapel is a small book and religious memento shop. Behind her little counter sat an elderly matron who seemed (body and facial language and tone of voice) displeased that I had quietly entered into her domain.
I don't have a clue as to what she said, but she sure made something clear to me ..
I smiled at her, pulled out a crisp, new 100 Russian Ruble note (U.S. $1.49) and, folding it gently, eased it into the collection box.
The sun suddenly and immediately emerged onto her face.
She and I then got along famously during my retreat into her 50°F warm (go back up above and see why some warmth felt good to me) little chapel as I tried to warm up from the -20°F or colder temperatures outside with the wind blowing.
Here we go with a little look-see inside.
IF I shot the the two below photos of the ceiling of the Chapel, I shot 10 or 15 others. Being hand-held, looking up, my hands unsteady as they struggled to warm up (read they were shaking a little) the photos either were blurry or I'd misaimed my shot.
There seemed to be no way that I could get the complete ceiling mural in one photo and have it centered and in focus.
As I gently pulled open the door to leave, my friend, the elderly Matron, still smiling broadly said with some emphasis ..
"Spasibo!"

The magic word you do understand and generate there is SPASIBO, Thank you! What a charming chapel, sort of modest from the outside, but full of warmth and beauty on the inside. Likely you could not get all of the ceiling into one picture because you were not able to get any farther away from it than straight up. Yet another nice post .. love and hugs. Patti
ReplyDeleteBelieve me that ceiling was way up there but you are correct, I could not get it to fit into one photo as I was not quite far away enough. In hindsight maybe I could've laid down, flat on my back, on the floor and then at least maximized the amount of the ceiling I could capture. All things considered it came out OK. Smiles and Love .. ReplyDeleteI found there is a "voluntary donation" box in almost all of Russia's churches, etc. I guess it helps with the maintenance. I also found some in which no photos were allowed, ostensibly for copyright reasons. Or, you had to pay extra to take photos.
ReplyDeleteYes on each account. I too am finding many donation boxes and I have no issue with slipping them some money. I also have been told NO photos. So far I've not been able to pay extra to take some photos but would be happy to do so. Smiles .. Cap
