Well .. Cap is, sort of, trusting me to do another post, not that he will not alter and/or add to it, or, perhaps replace it altogether ...
This is Patti posting ... Gullible, I admire you for being able to 'post' your own posts in YOUR words on Cap's blog ... just 'taking dictation' is a challenge for me.
Cap's words: "At age 48, the India Railway graciously assigns you a lower birth." It has been Cap's experience that he has ALWAYS been able to trade up to an upper birth ... he desires this because he can sleep during the day as it is darker in the upper birth above the window, and he doesn't have to make up his birth ... he also feels that his belongings are safer in the upper birth. The railway furnishes 2 sheets, a blanket, a pillow and case, and a nice towel, in 1st class and 2nd class A/C. The people in the lower birth have to fold up and put away these items so that people can sit on the lower births during the daytime.
Cap gets off, and walks around, if possible, at every stop, if for no other reason than to 'people watch'. That is always one of the highlights in 'why he loves India.'
One of the other highlights of the train trip is the meals (wouldn't you know Cap would mention this ...) ...Cap ordered a bread omelet, which means an omelet with bread that you can 'sandwich' around the omelet if you so choose, and he also ordered two lunches ... a chicken curry and a veg thali. There are also LOTS of snacks that vendors come down the aisles with and also people get off the train to buy snacks. Cap says he plans to put up a post on .net showing the little bags of snacks.
Cap says he appreciates my efforts here to keep you all informed and up to date. He also adds that he is just really happy to be riding the trains, which he enjoys thoroughly ... I, Patti, also, SO enjoyed the trains in 1996 when I was in India!
Argh ... I am hoping I am not faltering too badly on this for Cap. In Anchorage, Alaska, it is after midnight, which it was last night when I 'attemped' to put up a post for Cap which he added to and enhanced greatly with photos and commentary when he was able to get to a computer. I am doing my best.
