OCT 18, 14 .. FLY FISHING IN VERMONT ..

WHAT HAVE WE HERE IN THE BELOW PHOTO ? .. Well .. For one thing .. We do have a nice photo of some Autumn Leaves in New England.

Walking across the street and up the sidewalk we see the entrance to the above building.

"Ah HAH !  It is a museum !" .. "Very VERY good my friend 'Zilla ! You are keeping up!"

"But what type of a museum is it ?" .. "I thought you would never ask !"

The sign below does not state its location.  It is located at 4104 Main Street in Manchester, Vermont 05254 and 'Zilla .. it is NIFTY!

"Yes 'Zilla? What about it and those that do it?" .. "I doubt if either one of us know-one-whit about these kind and gentle Fly Fishing folks 'Zilla !  Below is a photograph of one of them 'Zilla .. a 'Fly Fisherman'."

The gentleman shown below came all the way from his home in San Francisco to 'Fly Fish' in the Battenkill River near Arlington, Vermont.  We two chatted for awhile.  He sure looks and was in fact very pleased to be out in the river just enjoying life.

I have a friend who is a Fly Fishing enthusiast par excellence!  I would be willing to wager that he has visited the Battenkill River to fly fish.  In fact I would bet he has been there numerous times.  Jim 94070 lives in the San Francisco Bay area also. The below gentleman did not know Jim so evidently the fly fishing community is quite large!  Back in March 2005 it was Jim who took me to an Apple Store in the San Francisco area at which I purchased the Apple iBook G4 that I am using as I write these words.  Jim .. my best to you and to Colleen.

According to Ed ..  my friend in Boston .. The Battenkill River in Vermont is a very well known catch-and-release river that Fly Fisherman fish for trout.

Ed said to me .. when I telephoned him from Vermont .. "Cap .. since you are so close to Arlington, Vermont .. You MUST see the Battenkill River IF only for its beauty !"

UM-M-M-M ..

"Oh Yes Ed !  Yes Sir ! As the below photographs loudly proclaim .. It sure was worth our time to make a little side trip to Arlington, Vermont just to see the Battenkill River."

I am pretty sure that ONLY a 'Fly Fisherman' can spot another fisherman out-in-the-river in the below photo.

"Here is the deal Cap !" .. So sayeth my 'Sage' .. Sir Ed from Boston .. "Just seeing the road beside the Battenkill River during the Autumn is worth the time to go there !"

UM-M-M-M .. "Again Ed .. You are RIGHT ON !"

OK .. Having .. In the above photographs .. Seized the opportunity to sneak-in yet more photos of Autumn beauty in New England .. I shall now get back to business here .. Yes I know .. MONKEY BUSINESS!

The Fly Fishing Museum in Manchester, Vermont.

Shall we all saunter inside for a brief look-see?

"Did you say saunter Captain?" .. "Oh Hi Henry David Thoreau .. So happy to have you along here with us all!"

The kind lady inside the museum allowed me to snap a photo or two WITHOUT PAYING the entrance fee.

A close-up photo of the top of the above plaque ..

"Yes 'Zilla!  Happiness IS different-things-to-different-people!  Give me a good racing car NOT a fish!"  SHADDY .. do beer lovers Fly Fish?  Out-in-the-river with a six-pack of beer?

But Ed said .. And so I DID .. A Fly Fishing Post ..

Below are photos that I snapped of photos in the Museum .. Pictures of pictures.

I shall now coin-a-phrase :  Taa-Daa :  World are you ready .. Here we go ..

FOR EVERY FLY FISHER-MAN .. THERE IS A FLY FISHER-WOMAN!

OR.. "We have a wrench to fit every nut In-The-Room!"

Where was I as the wheels began to fall off the car here Patti ?

Truly touching was the sidewalk up to the Museum.

"Oh Captain My Captain .. What on this good earth do the below Orvis photographs have to do with The Fly Fishing Museum and with Fly Fishing and with the Battenkill River ?"

This above comment was /s/ by .. You All KNOW Who !  It was from by my friend Alliz .. hint .. read Alliz's name backwards!

"Happy you asked me Alliz."

The name Orvis and Fly Fishing are like white-on-rice.  In 1856 Charles F. Orvis opened a fishing tackle shop in Manchester, Vermont.  Today .. like right now this moment .. Orvis offer fly fishing schools in various parts of the United States.

In Manchester, Vermont .. the flagship Orvis Store just-happened-to-be next to the Fly Fishing Museum.  As I just wrote .. Orvis and Fly Fishing are almost synonymous!  So how could I NOT shoot a few more photos since Patti was inside of the Orvis store and .. What was I to do-with-myself ?"

Lord Love A Duck .. I have gotten this train rolling !

Now I shall repeat myself ..

IF YOU HAVE NEVER VISITED NEW ENGLAND DURING THE AUTUMN SEASON .. PUT IT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST!

And IF you do visit New England .. You will NOT regret your visit during the Autumn ..

UM-M-M-M-M .. Well Captain this is after all a program of honesty .. Some Motels can be just-a-tad expensive .. A Comfort Inn here in Hampton, New Hampshire actually thought The Captain and Patti were going to pay .. $174 for one night .. onward we motored to a more-modest little Motel that REALLY NEEDED us ..

Gullible .. it has now been over three years since you got-me-going here on Blogspot back in October of 2011 .. Do you think that maybe .. just maybe .. I am FINALLY getting-the-hang of this ?

Without Ed .. who suggested that Patti and I visit The Battenkill River .. Without Martha who taught me how to upload photos into my little vintage year 2005 Apple Macintosh iBook G4 .. this Post would never have come-to-pass!  AGAIN .. Thanks  Ed and Martha ..

Cap and Patti .. Signing off for now .. with Smiles .. NO that is not us above .. we are below ..

    1. Shaddy this is at least our third .. I will say .. serious multi-week as to duration .. trip to New England in the Autumn. And each trip seems to get better-and-better! Perhaps this year the Autumn leaves are even more outstanding .. so grab Lon and as Nike says .. JUST DO IT some 'next year' as it works out .. Cheerio .. Cap and Patti ..

  2. I went back to take a longer look at this post. The Battenkill River is truly a thing of beauty; you captured it perfectly. This beer-loving woman does not fly fish or do any fishing to speak of. Lon loves it when I go fishing with him but rarely do I go. I spent 4 hours casting in 2013 from our son's boat with our son and Lon. It wasn't bad but I think that will hold me for quite a spell!!

The fly fishing museum looks grand. Lon and Jared don't fly fish but I'm sure they'd enjoy the museum. A very classy looking place, indeed.

The humor you put into your blog posts is delightful, Cap. It doubles and triples the enjoyment I get out of visiting here. Keep up the excellent work.

    Smiles to Cap & Patti,
    Shaddy

I spend more time posting to Facebook than to my blog. Darn. I think you'd enjoy some of my STUFF on FB. Oh well, I understand that you haven't gotten into that internet amusement park. I spend too much time there.

    1. Not much fishing? How about your ' fishing for ' the next premium hand-made exotic hobby beer Shaddy ? I think fly fishing and casting are two entirely different things. IF Lon was a fly fisherman then New England in the Autumn would have been a snap!

Ah yes .. Face Book .. we will have to discuss that. Why .. as a for instance .. do you have a blogspot website and a FB site ? Why do I have two web sites? Same reason I think .. each serves its own purpose. How is it Shaddy that you have 30-hour duration days ? IF I too had your 30-hour days .. I TOO could do about one-half of what you and Gullible do.

      Smiles .. Cap
