Why Oh Why did the word Geek/Geeks become synonymous with someone or something as odd, weird, different or strange? Read on and you will learn why!

A "geek" is a person with an intense, passionate interest in, or expert knowledge of, a specialized subject, such as technology, science fiction, or gaming.
What is wrong with being a "geek"?
While historically used as a derogatory term for a socially awkward person, it is now widely embraced as a badge of honor, celebrating deep expertise and enthusiasm.
The term ‘geek’ was used back in the past to refer to circus performers in the Victorian age. Before that, a geek was simply a ‘freak’ as used in the English language or a ‘fool’ in German. These oddballs were put on display in traveling geek shows and circuses where they would eat the head off of a live chicken or snake.

In my '30s and '40s, I was the office computer geek. I had some knowledge of computers but I think it was mostly, I wasn't afraid to try stuff and it usually worked. In fact it worked so well, they set up a tech department and put me in charge. I think mostly because I was the only one who could communicate with the programmers assigned to our department. Cracked me up. I was a young female supervisor supervising older men who made it known they weren't really thrilled about having a young female supervisor. At first. They played a few practical jokes, some of them really good, and they eventually came around to being a great team. I still go out to lunch with them, even though it's been over 20 years since I left that job. I wish I still had some of that computer geekiness. Now, I need a geek so badly!
