JUL 20, 26.. MOON LANDING DAY..

Moon Day commemorates the historic Apollo 11 lunar landing on Sunday, July the 20th, 1969.

Moon Day celebrates this historic feat every July 20th.

Do you remember where you were on that day and date?

I sure remember! I was in Atlanta, Georgia, building racing car engines and yes! Watching the Moon Landing with my wife and two sons!

And, I, Patti, remember where I was. I lived in Girdwood, Alaska at the time, a small community of less than 200 people. Girdwood had a ski resort that served Anchorage (about 40 miles away) and brought in about 5000 people on the weekends. There was a new small 20-room hotel at the ski resort and about 20 of us were standing at the hotel reception desk to watch the moon landing on a television above the check-in counter.

As the astronauts were about to step out on the moon, the hotel manager adjusted the hotel television and the picture disappeared off the screen. We all moaned. A hotel guest in the first room upstairs came to the top of the stairs and asked what was wrong. When we told him we no longer had a picture, he invited us all to squeeze into his room and watch from there. We rushed upstairs.. and got to watch Neil Armstrong step onto the moon. We were SO grateful!

American astronauts Neil Armstrong, and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin became the first humans in history to land on the Moon on July 20, 1969. The grand Apollo 11 mission took place eight years after the national goal announcement by President John F. Kennedy to send a man to the moon by the end of the 1960s.

Below are a batch of photos!
