Here, in Mariinsk in Russian Siberia, there is a Trip Advisor attraction.
CHAPEL OF THE GREAT MARTYR ANASTASIA UZORESHITELNITSA.
Now you tell me, one who to this day, some 62 years-later-and-counting, remains deeply touched by that long-ago movie, how I could not resist hiring a 'tour guide' here in Mariinsk, and visiting the Chapel of the Great Martyr after whom our Anastasia was named.
I had one day, I had from 1pm until 5pm on my one day, to make this visit. The dark, gray, oppressing skies of winter in Siberia parted and out came the sun!

We have arrived at the Chapel and Grounds.
МАРИИНСК .. MARIINSK
IF you only have one visit to Russian Siberia available to you in your entire lifetime, IF you are able to do so, come in the winter!
МАРИИНСК .. MARIINSK
The time has come to enter the Chapel.
We slowly walk out from the Chapel.
And knowing we shall not be returning again in this lifetime, we quietly leave the grounds.
Thank You МАРИИНСК .. MARIINSK .. Russian Siberia,
for sharing with us your great gift.

Because of my high regard for the film, I, too, would have found it difficult to give up a visit to the Anastasia Chapel. What a stunning chapel .. great pictures. I am so glad you took the time for this visit and to put up this post. Hugs! Patti

Tell me who you are
Are you someone
From another star
Anastasia
Are you what you seem
Do your sad eyes
Remember a dream

A different Anastasia than the Tsar's daughter, but rather one involved in Stalin's genocide of his own people, but what a beautiful place. It really does look cool, pardon the pun. And apparently Greek Orthodox, rather than Russian.
ReplyDeleteYes a different Anastasia but perhaps the Tsar's daughter was given her name after this the Great Martyr Anastasia. Either way it is a connection for me back to that long-ago 1956 movie that haunted me even then. Smiles .. Cap
