As you all know by now .. 'Pondi' was founded by the French and the French Section is very French. Here are three photos of street signs here in the French Section.
Below is a close-up of the top right sign.
The French you get. The other writing is in Tamil. India has two basic languages .. Hindi and English. That said there are some fourteen different languages within India. Tamil is one. The problem is this .. not all speak Hindi or English .. so Indians sometimes have problems speaking to Indians from another area of India.
Below is a photo of my street on which MOTHERS GUEST HOUSE is located.

The colored pattern on the street in the below photo is called a Kolam. I can't do justice to them here. I suggest you 'Google' the word and see a great Wikipedia write up on Kolams!

"What's that Zilla?" Sorry 'Zilla .. I don't know why some Kolams are small and why other Kolams are much larger and far more complex. I don't know if each and if every Hindi woman places a Kolam in front of their residence or in front of their business on a daily basis! Wikipedia has quite an informative post about Kolams .. more maybe than you want to know!
